Why I Want To Be A Marines Essay

Elmer Davis said that “This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave”. That being said, I want to help defend this great country, so I want to go into the Marines rather than going to college. College is good for growing your education, but is expensive as well as stressful. Also college does not always guarantee the job you want, even if one has the degree for it. The Marines however, have multiple benefits. Such as the G.I bill and others if I qualify. Not only that, but I enjoy keeping my body in shape and enjoy a good challenge. The Marines is not by any means easy; but I’ll try my hardest to make it. The United States Marine Corps has many benefits. They are also known as “The First to Go Last to Leave.” In other words, they are the ones that move into a base or town to control and don’t leave until the fighting is done. In boot camp they teach recruits to be proud of being a Marine and teach them all about the heritage throughout history. Another reason is because I enjoy having my body being in tip-top shape. I have always wanted to participate in sports and be fit since I was five. Another reason I want to join the Marines is because it offers benefits such as free college and other opportunities such that are in the G.I bill (“Marines Ed”).To qualify for full paid tuition, I would need to have a total of fifty questions or more answered correct on the basic academic portion of the ASVAB. However, only a select few are eligible free college. But, if I go to college “they pay for my college and give me fifteen hundred dollars a month to get me by” (“SSgt Payne”). They also allow soldiers to stay on base instead of paying of an apartment or renting a home. Overall the Marines is a good start to a good life. If I were to go to the Marines I would have to get through the boot camp. Which
