Why I Want To Be A Healthcare Professional

A wide variety of experiences have molded my character and who I envision myself to be as a health care professional. First, I was raised in a household that holds honesty, integrity, and respect to high standards. As a result, I grew up remembering to always be mindful of others and that even the seemingly worst consequences of honesty will always be better than the consequences of dishonesty. Also, many shadowing experiences have strengthened these virtues. Observing and getting to know physicians with excellent morals and practices has helped me decipher what type of qualities I wish to obtain as a professional in the healthcare field. For example, I shadowed my primary care physician and was able to see the level of integrity, compassion, and sincerity he implements when communicating with his patients. This was incredibly inspiring for me, as I also want to ensure that patients feel reassured and confident about the level of care they receive.
Shadowing is not the only area that has inspired me to be compassionate. Altruism is an innate personal attribute of mine that continues to grow stronger with each interaction

I have done so through positions in an organization, Alpha Epsilon Delta (AED), at my home university. I have served as a Volunteer Coordinator and Vice President, along with serving as the President for this upcoming academic year. From organizing community service events to actively communicating with members of the organization and community, I have been able to build upon skills needed to be an effective leader. The many experiences I have been fortunate to partake in, along with personal attributes, have aided in the values that I now obtain.
