The continuous emotional pressure with people- that comes along with this career choice- left my energy level feeling depleted. A contributing factor to what made me feel so burnt out was feeling overwhelmed during the busy time of the year, with assignment, volunteering, and trying to use the skills I have been learning out in real situations. It is extremely important to me that I work through the stress that I carry and not let it affect my work and wellbeing. Learning to recognize when I am feeling stressed before I get to the point that I have nothing to give is imperative. Just recognizing is not enough though; working on stress management strategies will help actual change take place. Some solutions I want to remember to try are to examine my behavior and if it is helping or hindering me. To ask myself if I continue that way, will I end up stressed and burnt out. One example I really liked from the text book, was to remind myself that just because I can do something does not mean that I should do something. I am not always required to be a part of every situation, get everything completed on my to-do list in one day, etcetera. I cannot be all things for all people, or always be available at any time.
