Which college are you attending? What degree are you going to be majoring in? What do you mean you're not going to college? These are questions all high school students are asked constantly. American society focuses on college like it’s a plague. “If you choose to attend a college, spectacular! If you don’t, you’re destroying your life.” That is how people today think of going to college. Personally, I will be attending college as the career I want to pursue requires a college education. That being said, I believe a college education is not always necessary, depending on the direction you would like your life to go! To begin, the focus will be on the tremendous size of debt that will trail behind you for a good chunk of your life. From young ages, many people hear about huge amounts of college debt and people who regret going to college before knowing what they wanted to do in life. If you can avoid those things, avoid them! Many people are drowning in the bills because of loans they took out years in the past. Our culture pretty much swears by going to college. In second grade teachers ask you what you want to be when you grow up. In seventh grade teachers expect you to have your life planned out. By eleventh grade, society is telling you that you need to be getting ready for college. The one thing teachers, parents, guardians, and society all forgets to mention? That it’s your decision. From the time we are napping on mats all the way up to when we receive our diploma, we are pressured to apply for college.
