Why I Want To Attend College Essay

My ambition to attend college originated from witnessing my family's academic choices. My mom dropped out of school before her freshman year, and my dad left college in realization that his occupation does not require any further education. Since their education was lacking, my parents never had a good job to support my family, which resulted in severe poverty. My older sister was the first person in my generation to apply to college. She applied to a local community college in my area, and later dropped out. The career choice she made was not beneficial to her at all, my sister hated her job and hated her classes. Witnessing my sister fall through on her career plans, along with my parents, I vowed to myself to further my education and dedicate myself to academics to gain a beneficial occupation and support myself and my future family. During my college experience, I have a few expectations. To begin with, I hope to develop a stronger sense of responsibility. Responsibility is an extremely important trait to me, it proves the character of a person and develops a strong …show more content…
I fully understand that I will change my mind several times throughout the next lengthy journey, but to become a happier person and more developed person would be one of my main goals. I believe that understanding who you are as a person will completely affect your long term goals, hopefully in a good way. Another goal of mine is to begin my journey as a mental health therapist and to try my best to help everyone I possibly can to understand the severity of mental health, provide counseling services to those who need help working through their disorders, and spread awareness of the prevalence conditions and the rare conditions. Helping people is a huge part of my personality and my character, so pursuing a career in this activity will hopefully provide me with the most overall
