The reason behind my interest stems from the fact that as a gay male, I lived through the height of the AIDS epidemic and witnessed the passing of many genuine friends. Back then individuals dying from AIDS suffered horrifically and painfully as death commonly came at a snail’s pace. All’s you could do was pray for an end to their suffering, but for some that process was slowed even further when the guardian(s) or next of kin insisted all measure be taken to prolong life. One such measure included the insertion of a feeding tube, which often resulted in division amongst family and friends. Another example, we had a Nutrient Table and a Nutrient Chart, but there were no clear directions on which was the right one to use on one of the assignments. Thankfully, Amy was available to clear up the confusion. Lastly, I do not feel there are any topics that should be omitted from the course, nor can I think of any topics for inclusion. However, I would have liked to see the topic of HIV expanded on further, but that is because of my interest and work in that field. Despite a few minor issues, this course was extremely interesting and valuable, and I move on with a much deeper appreciation for
