In life there are many situations you come across where you must decide whether to stay quiet or speak up. Most of the times I decide to stay quiet and turn the other cheek, but during the summer I decided to step out of my comfort zone. In April my boyfriend bought us tickets to go to the Ohana Music Festival in Dana Point California. This was the present he gave me for our three year anniversary and it was the best thing that anyone has ever given me. I was extremely excited because my all-time favorite singer, Lana Del Rey was going to perform. I absolutely adore her and I never thought that I would ever get the opportunity to watch her sing live.
The day of the festival we left early and when we got there we decided to walk around the tents set up. Then we went to the stage where all the different performers were

I immediately was upset because we had been waiting for four hours to keep our spots and we were tired from standing for so long. I’m a 19 year old Hispanic woman and I felt intimidated by this woman because she looked much older than me, but also because she looked to be drunk. I thought about not saying anything, but then I realized that this was probably the only time I was going to be able to see Lana Del Rey perform. She told me to get out of her country and that I had no right to be there because I belonged in Mexico along with all the other immigrants coming into her country. I am an American citizen and I was born in the United States, so her comment did not offend me personally but it did hurt me

She continued cursing, not at me but my father. When I was done bagging her items she started telling me how I am really good at my job and was trying to belittle my dad by comparing me to him, I smiled and right before she was about to leave I said “Thanks, but the reason why I am so good at my job is because of the man you disrespected for a good 20 minutes, my dad, who has taught me everything, but have a great day, see you again.” She slid in a few more swear words, directed at me this time and left. That was one of the first times I had seen what happens to people of color or a minority group, and it happened to my father almost daily and he has become immune to it, but since that day I have been traumatized by how low people can stoop to belittle people of different views and beliefs. Also since that day I realized how much racial discrimination can hurt and affect someone, similar to in the story how the all the races hated each other, also just…

We all dance and sung with the mariachi for a little while but when it was later in the night, modern music was played by a DJ.…

I have always been taught to judge people based on their actions rather than their appearance, and this was a lesson that was completely reinforced by the house I lived in, in which I grew up. As kids, if any of us even remotely suggested that we were focused on someone 's looks, we were immediately punished and reminded that there is no way to know a person based on what he or she looked like, but rather it is important to know the heart inside the body. Nevertheless, as an adult, it became as clear as day to…
