Personal Narrative: My Interview With A Teacher

After interviewing my friend Brittany O’Donnell, who is a math teacher at Louis Klein Middle School in Harrison, New York. I gained insight into the career, which has allowed me to think more about how I should go about my education. The most important advice I acquired from the interview was that as a teacher should be patient and flexible to adapt to every one of the students to meet their individual needs. I learned from my interview that not all students learn in the same way, and certain teaching methods are more appealing and exciting to students than others. It has become a challenge to meet today’s high educational standards with all students due to many students who have a learning disability or low reading level.
Miss O’Donnell went to Manhattanville College she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Childhood Education (grades 1-6) and Psychology, a Masters Degree in Mathematics Education (grades 5-12), and a Certificate in Students with Disabilities. Brittany decided that she wanted to impact on young people someday.

She cheered me to visit as many different schools as possible and get as much experience with teaching as I can while still in college. Brittany suggested I carefully observe the many different teaching styles. Brittany also stressed the importance of having a mentor and people to support me spiritually, emotionally, and vocationally. One of my biggest concerns about being a teacher is finding the right balance between being the classroom authority and my students’ friend. Brittany explained, “There are different levels of friendship. Be friendly and open with your students, but pray for discernment in knowing where to draw the line.” Finally, Amy reminded me not to beat myself up when I make a mistake. No teacher is
