“Why I should be selected to MYLAC..?” In today’s society I would consider myself a great leader as of now. If I’m fortunate enough to gain the acceptance of the “Mayor’s Young Leaders Advisory Council” (MYLAC), I feel that this is nothing but a great opportunity that awaits me. As a young man that enjoys to help with not only the people I interact with, but as a whole I find pleasure in helping my community in any way possible. Whether that be drug abuse, gang activity, or even killing. Stopping these things will affect our people and community 100%. Effecting the community doesn’t always mean helping the homeless or cleaning the streets of our community. Simply stepping up to reach out and helping stopping the violence... Helping stop to gang activity, drug abuse and creating leaders will make our community turn for the better. Another reason I feel that I should be selected for this wonderful group is because not only will I receive from this group but I will also give all that I can to make this group better, this means I will give my commitment, participation, and attendance to this group to better the group as a whole. This will be a great opportunity not only for me but for the other young men that has been fortunate enough to gain this opportunity such as myself. This will help us in many ways, the group will help us help pour community and also will help us reach out to get to know others, and gain relationships with other young men that just may be worth not forgetting. The relationships that we gain can turn into other things such as long term friends, See I look as this group for more than just what it is.
I see this as way more than just helping our community although that’s a big aspect of this group, it is actually way more.

Growing up, leadership has always played a huge role in my life. It has helped me grow as a person and allowed me to learn new skills. In middle school, I enjoyed working with my peers to organize events and help others. For example, as a member of my school’s choir, I took the opportunity to help organize concerts, design brochures and make posters to inform the school community about upcoming concerts and events. In addition, I took part in the fundraiser to help raise money for our music department at Carson.…

Successful community leaders may lead communities through relationships, goals and influence. For this assignment students were to informally interview 5-7 peers of our community to discover which leaders they identify with successful leadership. During the course of interviews, I made an attempt to interview varying levels of work experience and educational background of employees that work at the City of Bend, Oregon. As a result, my interviewees had working knowledge of the city ‘behind the scenes’ which might have produced some unintended results to my inquiries. In my interviews, I made no attempt to “correct” the interviewee, such as when additional information was requested of my questions.…
