Why do I want to be a Teacher?

Teachers have multiple roles in today’s society, and it is upsetting when the teachers out in classrooms do not want to be with their students. The way that teachers hold themselves in the classroom can deeply affect their education, as well as their self-worth from the time when they are in the teacher’s classroom further on, and so it is imperative that they desire to be with their students and desire to make a positive impact. This is one thing that I personally am excited for with becoming an elementary teacher, and I am excited for so much more. I desire to make a positive impact, be a positive role model, build confidence into my students, teach important life-lessons, bring joy into school, as well as teach! I want to be a teacher so that I can make a positive impact on my students and so that I can be a positive role model for my students. The world and society that we life in is constantly bombarding kids with negative images of who they should me, how they are not skinny or smart enough, and about how they need to earn love. This is something that I wish to combat within my classroom by building positivity into the classroom and by building the kid’s confidence. According to Bob Cunningham, a Masters of Education who is a consultant for Understood.org, a healthy self-esteem helps children to be “better able to face and manage their learning challenges” (Cunningham, n.d.).
