Why I Love Softball

My freshman year of high school I went out for softball. I had loved softball when I was younger and had always been the star of the team. I wasn’t expecting to come in and be a hot shot, but I also wasn’t expecting to be the bottom man of the totem pole. We had a large team and the coaches knew that to get everyone playing time they would need to have some of us suit up for the first game and save others for a different game that would be easier. I was thrilled when coach said my name in the list of those suiting up for the first game regardless it was for the junior varsity team. We warmed up and ran back to the dugout to take our final fielding practice and the starters ran out on the field. I stayed optimistic and excited to even be suiting up. The first header ended in a win and I was anticipating that I would get to play a little the next one. The team ran in and out of the …show more content…
I worked harder in practice everyday. The next game the coach called me over and told me to get ready. I instantly knew this was my time to prove that I hadn’t been slacking and that I was not afraid. I ran to shortstop and right off the bat made the first play. My hard work and determination didn’t end there though, I ran harder than I ever had and stayed after practice to get more reps almost every day. As the season progressed I continued to chase my goals and get better. Eventually I replaced the starter on junior varsity and made the varsity regional team. Through all of my struggles I worked to stay positive and cheer on my team no matter what the outcome and whether things went my way or not. I showed leadership to my fellow teammates in the way I worked from the bottom, and even though I was a freshman I pushed others to work harder also. Softball is now my favorite sport and I continue to put tremendous amounts of work into it. There is never an off-season in softball or

Playing sports has always been my passion, I love everything about it. But one thing has always stood in my way; my size. I’ve never been the tallest person in a crowd and most of the time I am one of the shortest people in the room. I never imagined that this could hold me back from something that I love so much and could possibly make my dreams of playing collegiate softball unreachable. I first began playing softball at only five years old.…

I flew around the field and made plays, while backing it up in the batters box with my bat. My performance was sufficient enough to be extended an invite to the Area Code Games! I was ecstatic when I received my invite and celebrated with my family, and throughout the excitement, I knew my work wasn't done. I can remember arriving to the field to meet my team in Long Beach and seeing Palm trees in the outfield and a Fresh-off-the-press New Balance bag with all of my assigned gear in it. I knew then that my work had payed off and that experiencing that failure in the summer of 2015 was the fuel I used to get here.…

The coach threw me out first to bat because I have a higher batting range. As I was getting a helmet and my bat, I was watching the pitcher to see how see pitches. I walked up to the left-side batting box since I am left-handed. When the pitcher pitched the softball I swung and hit a double straight down between third baseman and shortman. That got my team pumped up and…

While growing up, sports have always been a big part of my life. At the age of only six years old, my parents first signed me up for coach pitch softball. Little did they know that I was going to fall in love with the game and that they were going to have to spend countless hours at softball fields during the spring each year watching me play. Being so young when I first started playing, winning and losing did not matter at all. As long as I got to throw, hit, and catch the ball, I was happy.…
