Why I Hate Running Research Paper

If you were to ask me any day during the week what I think of running, I will look at you and vindictively tell you that I hate running. Which is a very true statement. I do hate running. But it is also the one thing that I enjoy no matter what time of year it is. No matter what is going on, there is always time to run.

That probably sounds very contradictory, and I would understand if you are now confused. Its a lot like vegetables. Most people hate them, but veggies are good for you, so they eat them anyway. To me, running is much the same way. I don't enjoy it, but it is good for me. So I run. Running is more than just a physical exercise. Which is true, as there is always time. However, time and a will are completely different. If I lived in Florida or California, I wouldn't mind running everyday. Iowa is another story entirely. Four months out of the year it is a frigid frozen land where only the die hard runner go. I, alas, am not a die hard runner. So I run the other 8 with a decent attitude. I have the pleasure of being part of the Oskaloosa High School Cross Country team, which gives me a place to run for 5 months out of my eight, which is very nice. Running is a great way to burn off stress. Running is a lot like venting, just without annoying everyone around you. During cross country season, I am much more relaxed and my grades are in the green. As the season winds down and the weather gets less friendly, the number of time I wish to go outside goes down, and my stress levels go up. Both of my parents know this, and they encourage me to run. They have on multiple occasion kicked me out of the house and made me go run. Me choosing to run and me being forced to run have a distinctly different result. As I have stated, I hate running. So if someone makes me go run, I am not going to be getting less stressed. In fact, after being forced to run, I feel more stressed. If I choose to run, it is relaxing as I don't have anything particular on my mind and can choose what I want to think about. Running is a very fickle thing, as one way it builds

From my last 3 years of running cross county I have learned a lot of things. One is that you should never give up, second is that if you work hard enough then you can achieve whatever you put your mind to, and third is how you can go from disliking something to loving something. How I've learned these things from cross county is when I first started cross country, my sophomore year I couldn't run to save my life. Coach would always time us on how fast we could run two miles and I would always be last and be so far behind everyone else which was quite embarrassing but I couldn't help it I had just started and I'd never ran before in my life, at my very first meet I couldn't even run the first mile and I ended up having to drop out. After that I didn't like cross county at all because I wasn't good at it…
