Public speaking can be very hard for some people, and it can make a huge first impression. In the book An Essential Guide to Public Speaking by Quentin Schultze it goes deeper than just talking to a regular audience. It talks about being a Christian and handling public speaking. This is a great book to learn about how to be a public speaker and a Christian but not to lose your audience by talking too much about God or not enough. When someone says a free society in public speaking it opens, it appeals to a lot more people.…
By reading chapter 6, the main point to stuck out to me were the three main questions to keep in mind referring to the audience. The first is, "who am I speaking to?" Knowing who your audience is important when working on a speech because you can come up with techniques on how to connect the topic to the audience personally, and know what many be offensive or appropriate. The second question is, "what do I want them to know, believe, or do as a result of my speech? "…
One of Franklin D. Roosevelts most promote quotes state “the only thing we have to fear is fear itself. This statement is very true. I would consider myself moderately anxious about public speaking. I remember the first few communication apprehensions I experienced in my personal and work life. With my personal experience, I was at church when I shared a testimony with the bible study. With my work encounter, I had to conduct status updates for two areas during project implementations and testing phases with a large group. In both situations, my heart pounded loudly right before I spoke and when the words came out of my mouth, I felt like I had to speak quickly like Speedy Gonzalez!…

One day there was a girl, her name was Sam. She was your average girl. She was shy but knew how to make someone laugh. She wouldn't really open up to you unless she was comfortable. Public speaking was one thing she could not do.…
Therefore, reducing this fear is critical if Susan is going to be successful in using either controlled fluency or mild, acceptable stuttering. Or else, her fears will create excessive muscular tension and speeding up, and she may be unable to alter her speech production toward fluency under conditions of high fear. (Guitar, 2014, p. 293) Avoidance and speech fears need to be substantially reduced to enable clients, like Susan, to maintain their improvement over the long run.…

Before being a member of the Boys and Girls Club, I would always get anxious when asked to present in front of an audience small or large. I myself am someone who cannot talk in front of people. When forced by teachers to present, my voice becomes shaky and I physically shake. I had to present for my Health class freshman year. I felt sick and I stuttered all through the presentation. People laughed and made fun of me for it.…
I have had many opportunities to speak in front of large crowds as far back as elementary school all the up to my college career. Public speaking is recognized throughout the world as one of the most intimidating tasks a human being might undertake. Public speaking is thought to be one of the greatest fears man has. But the initial trepidation one might experience with public speaking can be effectively managed with practice, preparation and experience in speaking to groups large and small.…
Throughout school I have delivered speeches in front of the class; over the years I have noticed that I get quite nervous, and have a few tendencies as a result. Sometimes I find it difficult to give eye contact, as seeing their eyes on me often increases my anxiety. In order to relieve some of the anxiety, I tend to fidget. I might fidget with my feet, rocking them to their sides, or just move them around. I will also mess with my hands, and rub my fingers together.…
None of the directions within the lesson, student guide, or assignment really made it clear on which video I am supposed to critique. So I have decided to critique the first video which is titled “Ineffective Public Speaking.” As soon as you see Dan even before he beginnings speaking you can see he is not in proper attire, you can also tell he has major anxiety being in the ‘spotlight”. He is sweating and looks very out-of-place which is not a good sign. As he beginnings speaking he is speaking in a tone that makes it seem like he is not very interested.…
I sometimes get nervous about what people are thinking about my speech when I am giving it but if I don’t judge people from the audience then I will have the mindset when I am on stage that people from the audience are not judging me. Lastly, I think that I will be able to get up in front of people and give a speech without getting extremely nervous. I haven’t had much experience with speaking in front of big groups but hopefully by the end of this semester I will be very good at it without having any nervous feelings if someone asked me to give a public…
