The Importance Of My Guiding Principles

Improved Essays
There are always special words or phrases that help people get through their days. A reason that I need these in my life is so I keep going even though my mind and body may tell me to stop. I always tell myself these so I keep my drive going and know what I am going for. If something or someone took these sayings from me I would make new ones but no one can get inside my brain to do so. A guiding principle is a statement with a special meaning that keeps one motivated, encouraged and driven for whatever comes ones way. One of my guiding principles is the famous quote “If you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe, then you will be successful.” This quote got me through many times and has kept me motivated. One of those times is when …show more content…
It has showed me that life is not just about material things because they will all come and go just like all the gizmos. I do not need all the newest materials such as a new car with the power windows, power seats and even power locks. All of those things are just stupid gizmos which are not needed. I bought a nice twenty-five year old truck that works just fine without all the newest options. I have realized that those gizmos do not always work and often fail in the most inopportune time ever. Another time that I did not need the top model was when I bought my dirt bike a while ago. I did not need the stupid gizmos such as the upgraded suspension or the engine protector because I knew that if I took care of it, it would last. I would change the oil and clean it when it got dirty. The other stupid gizmos would have been a waste of money because all I needed to do was put in a little effort to make it worthwhile. The next time that I did not need the best model for the stupid gizmos was when I got my phone. I got my phone model, which was already three years old at the time. There had already been two better phones in front of it, but I did not care for those gizmos. I knew that they all did the same thing such as call, play games, and lots of other amazing things. So even though mantra, “just another stupid gizmo” sounds stupid is has had a big impact on my life and will continue to for many

In Josh Sundquist’s book Just Don't Fall he covers many aspects of the average human and the way we go about things. One aspect that I like is he really strives to show the drive, and the urge to never give up no matter what circumstances you are presented with. After reading this book I really decided to rethink many aspects of my own life and questioned how determined am I to actually do stuff. One way I plan to apply this to my own life is by putting all my effort into something if i'm going to even bother with it in the first place. What I mean is I don't wanna half ass it if my names going to be on the paper.…

“There is no guidebook to success, therefore, we all write our own.” As the Salutatorian of Sacred Heart High School’s Class of 2007, I uttered these words during my speech in hopes of inspiring my classmates. Those words certainly inspired me, as I earned one out of only four Biochemistry degrees awarded in Manhattan College four years later and, thereafter, as I advanced up the corporate ladder in my first job with Conair Corporation. However, these achievements seem minor compared to my accomplishments during my first few months with Shiseido Americas Corporation, which resulted in my fastest promotion to date.…

In Serve or Fail, the author, Dave Eggers, brings up the point that community service should be required in colleges. According to Eggers, “college is too long-it should be three years-and even with a full course load and part-time jobs there are many hours in the days and weeks that need killing.” He believes that with all of the free time that students have, they should do something productive and helpful like community service. Additionally, Eggers thinks that if colleges were to require community service, then it would not only improve their working environment, but it would also touch and improve each student. I would agree with Eggers because I have found out that when colleges require community service, it increase their students’ self-efficiency, boost their teamworking skills, and helps them find a sense of responsibility.…

It showed me that there was much much more to see and to explore in the world, even if it seems like it’s all the same. Sure, you can say that a beach is a beach or every place has that, but a beach in California isn’t going to be the same as a beach in Florida or a beach in Brazil. It may not have white sand and sapphire waters, but the beach in Charleston will always be my first beach. The storms I experienced in Charleston will always be the origin point of my interest in bizarre weather. Charleston certainly isn’t New York or Los Angeles by any means of comparison, but it’s a place that gave me something more to see than the standard Midwest visuals I’m accustomed…

Michael Jordan once said, “Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.” Being born to two immigrants, who have never completed college, and growing up in a low-income family of six individuals, I have faced nothing but a myriad of obstacles in my life. Although at times I have struggled to overcome these challenges, I have always persevered and pushed past each one with my determination to be the best I can be, which has matured me into the young adult I am today.…
