Personal Narrative: If I Had To Meet The Person

What if you got to meet the person- famous or not- that you had looked up to for years? The role model I got to meet is Emilie Autumn, a baroque/gothic pianist, violinist, and singer-songwriter. And probably most importantly, the main reason that I did not commit suicide freshman year. She indirectly taught me to be confident, stand up for myself, to fearlessly be myself, and that it was okay to be mentally ill. Through her lyrics and writing, she helped me get out of my depressive, suicidal episode and finally be happy.

Walking up to my parents, laptop with the ticket information page open in my shaking hands, I took a deep breath and prepared to ask the million dollar question. “So. Emilie Autumn is hosting a tea party, only one hundred people can go, and it’s $200,” I said, and held my breath, awaiting a response. “Well… that’s expensive. Where is it being held?” my dad asked. “It’s in Chicago. I really want to go. I need to go! It’s a once in a lifetime thing! Pleeeeeease, I promise I won’t ask for

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

In my area, the tight-knit community of Garnet Valley, most of the residents have the same idea of families. Families will support you, families will help you when no one is there to help, and families will love you no matter what. Even their stick figure family on the bumper of their car are together. During school, you read about families and hear from other people about how funny their family dinners are.…

There are a couple of obstacles that have played a major role in me becoming who I am today. I've had naysayers trying to negatively influence my thoughts, and crush my dreams by saying that said I will never amount to anything, or that I should give up on my dreams and get realistic with my goals. A couple years ago I was a completely different person. I was out of shape physically, my academic performance was very poor, and I had a terrible attitude. If someone told me in my freshman year that I would stop swimming, I would’ve called him or her crazy: swimming was my passion. I embraced the grueling hours, intense training, and early mornings. I loved swimming because it was challenging. It allowed me to push myself physically and mentally, and it gave me immense satisfaction. However, as I finished my sophomore winter season, an opportunity to start a landscaping company arose: I could either start this business or keep swimming.…
