As someone who has battled with mental health, fortunately, I have been given the support needed to aid my recovery from my family, friends and dedicated health and social care professionals. I learnt the importance of self-care and routine and expressing myself through the activities I enjoy, including my love for reading, as like me, many individuals find it extremely difficult to talk about our thoughts and feelings and require a different outlet.
The support I have received motivates me to channel this feeling of empowerment, to where I can support individuals through motivating, implementing strategies for solving problems, followed by providing teaching skills and creative adaptations to completing tasks based on abilities. This is evidenced by the voluntary work I've completed at County Care, where I run and participate in personalised activities, aimed at individuals with learning difficulties and mental health conditions. My communication skills are key to this and I believe that effective communication should be the priority of every service.
