Last summer morning, Hannah, and I were leaving her house. We noticed a vehicle speeding around the curves. They were there, and then they weren't. Hannah noticed a hole through the trees on the side of the road and yelled at me to stop. After stopping, we saw the car had flipped into the trees and brush. Hannah jumped out of the car, began to lose her composure, and questioned what needed to be done. I calmly told Hannah to stay calm and call 911, while I made my way towards the vehicle. Three people emerged from the vehicle. After moving them a safe distance from the overturned vehicle while trying to soothe all I began helping the passenger from the backseat. She was bleeding. I shouted to Hannah to bring me the bottle of water, GermX, and …show more content…
I made the life decision to pursue a career in nursing rather than continuing in Mechanical Engineering. I understood this would not be an easy transition but I learned early on that if you approach a goal with determination and hard work, nothing is impossible. This is exactly what I plan to do.
I had the opportunity to learn about nursing at a young age. My grandmother and mother are registered nurses. My mother took me to work with her at the nursing home. Subjected to different environments, I learned to communicate with elderly patients and staff. Since then I had the opportunities to shadow hospital staff, which has brought me exposure and reassurance that this is what I want to do.
My goals include achieving a B.S.N. and beginning work. I will excel at nursing and further pursue my career in health and medicine. While working, I plan to further my education into Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP). More importantly, I plan to set a goal to help someone new every day and follow one of my favorite quotes, “You must be the change you wish to see in the world. – Gandhi”
Ultimately, I know that I can do this and do this

    Why I Chose Nursing

In my perfect world people would live healthy lives; they would always pick the healthy option rather than the cheap more convenient one. Free clinics would be more readily available for the homeless or less fortunate. The public would be interested in precautions on how to prevent the spread of diseases and illnesses. Realistically this is a challenge that our world faces and is one of the many reasons why I want to pursue a degree in nursing. My desire to enter into the medical field and become a nurse stems back to when I was an adolescent; I can remember watching Dr. 90210 do multiple surgeries on patients and I can just remember myself saying “I want to be able to make people feel good about themselves, no matter what.”…

While Struggling with a learning disability such as ADHD, the feeling of discouragement and illiteracy negatively impacted my academics as a child. I have faced several obstacles growing up with ADHD, but I realized that adhd is not a “disability”, it’s the ability to process knowledge at my own pace. That self-confidence is what gave me the encouragement and drive to seek a higher level of education and meet all my life goals. When I was a child and others would ask, “What do you want to be when you grow up”, my answer had always remained the same. I 've always been determined to be a nurse, nursing assistant, or work somewhere in the medical field.…

As an avid believer in the pursuit of college education, I know that there will be continuous opportunities outside an undergraduate degree in nursing. Throughout my high school career, I have maintained the status of a distinguished honor student, participated in various clubs and organizations, and have accepted corresponding leadership positions. I consider myself to be very goal-oriented, and have dedicated countless hours into studying for rigorous Advanced Placement classes. I would be a beneficial candidate to receive this award because of my constant determination to succeed in school, pursuit of an undergraduate degree in nursing, and also the desire to participate in organizations focused on leadership roles. As a senior in high school, I’ve been able to apply to many colleges across Arkansas.…

This foreign substance left me with collapse leaving me a very slim chance of living, but because of my amazing doctors, I survived. I was put on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, or a heart lung by-pass machine, for a week to restore my lungs causing me to stay in the hospital for almost two months to recover. With the help on my intelligent doctors who tried everything to save me, I wouldn’t be where I am today.…

I decided I wanted to be a nurse many years ago after discovering that my family is filled with nurses, and hearing their first hand experiences. They expressed the joy and excitement that happens on a day to day basis, and how there is always something new happening everyday. They described to me the good and the bad, but emphasized to me how rewarding it is to really help someone in need. Two years ago when my sister graduated from Georgia Southern 's nursing program so our family had a big get together and all my aunts and uncles who are nurses flew down to Georgia and talked to her about all the different options and specializations she could choose from and the fact that she could go anywhere in the US and get a job. I heard all…

The reason why I really want to be a nurse is because of my grandma. The house caught fire and so did they. My grandma for the most part took the brunt of it, but my mom was also burnt pretty bad. She almost died several times when they were doing everything they could to keep her alive.…
