That is because I never would have been able to identify the potential positive outcomes that arise from going to a community college and then attempting to transfer out to a four year. Transferring has allowed me to become a much more competitive applicant than I would’ve been as a freshman applicant. In turn this has allowed me to consider more prestigious universities throughout the application process. Through transferring I wish to unlock even more opportunities, especially those surrounding my fields of interest, Politics, and Law, that would not have been immediately available to me as a run of the mill freshman applicant. Transferring from a community college was the second chance that I needed to prove not only to myself but to my parents that I have the potential and am fulfilling that potential to be an outstanding student regardless of my

In the article “Two years Are Better Than Four years,” Liz Addison argues that two years colleges are better than four years colleges. Addison is right by noting that two years colleges acts as a springboard for many students to begin there higher education career, but she is wrong by refusing to acknowledge that four years colleges are equally beneficial. In evaluating the American college system, I would argue that two years colleges have their benefits as well as four years colleges, but at the same time, I wouldn’t agree that two years colleges are better than four years colleges. These two different type of college systems have their benefits…

I chose to attend a community college for three main reasons: affordability, location, and small classes. Right out of high school I started college at a public, four-year college, University of River Falls; I had to drop out a month in due to medical issues. At that time I was unaware that I could make a medical appeal and get a full refund, so when I tried college again I was over a thousand dollars in debt from my first attempt. I’m on disability, so my income is limited and I can’t work that many hours. The location of my current community college, St. Cloud Technical and Community College, is right by most of my doctors, so the location is a great fit for me.…

Because it is true that I had very few real expectations for what my college experience would be like, there was very little that could have disappointed me. Unlike most people assume about students who decide to transfer, most my expectations were met. While, yes, there were a few things I wish were different, the lack of people on campus on the weekend, the strange meal plan style and a few teaching styles I wasn 't very good at embracing, overall I did like my school. I liked my classes, I loved my friends and the Christian community I was surrounded with, I even got the opportunity to work under two of the professors I respected the most, yet during the final months of my freshman year, something inside of me wasn 't sure I was meant to stay. I felt overwhelmed with a feeling of not belonging there anymore.…
