Growing up in a household whose first language is not English, I was determined to be successful to represent my family. As a high school senior, the question I am most used to hearing is, “where do you want to go to college,” and my habitual response is the Wharton Undergraduate School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. But I think that the more apt question is “why do you want to go to college?” Personally, I want to learn. The Wharton motto of “knowledge for action” embodies this desire to learn and use this knowledge to pursue a career in something that engages and interests me. I am an aspiring investment banker and international business executive and am intrigued by mergers and acquisitions, investment banking from an international perspective, and the effect of international events on the global economy and the ensuing effect on corporations.…

I do not want to be like everyone else. Yes, people go to college to obtain an education, as well as, to pursue their desired future careers. However, I want to go to college for three main reasons: to receive a quality education, to gain experience and to be placed in a challenging environment. Acquiring an education of high quality , which I will most certainly obtain from George Mason University, allows me to learn and receive necessary information in alignment with my major. In addition to education, I want to gain intrapersonal and interpersonal experiences in college.…

My decision to return to college was purely random. There was no pondering over the decision; no weighing in the pros and cons, no thinking it through or any real thought behind it. I literally woke up one morning and said to myself “I think I’ll go back to college” and I made the call. I called the College of New Rochelle and made the appointment for the admissions test. And before I knew what was actually happening, I was a matriculated college student.…

My mother made sure that I was not fed by the silver spoon and that plastic would do just fine in my time of need. I have volunteered; participated in sports, always put my academics first. I knew that my education would be the real key which would allow me to go to any institution of my choice.…

There are a lot of reasons why I decided to come back to school to become a teacher, but one of the largest is that I have always enjoyed learning. I think there is something magical about watching the moment when the effort put towards understanding finally comes together and an idea just clicks for a student. I realize this is not all that teaching is, there are many times where you might not feel like what you’re doing isn’t really having an impact but seeing the moments of understanding do happen. Being back in the classroom today reminded of this and all the other reasons I decided to pursue my masters and I felt more sure than I have in a long time that this is the right path for me to be on. This isn’t to say that the day wasn’t without…
