In my perfect world people would live healthy lives; they would always pick the healthy option rather than the cheap more convenient one. Free clinics would be more readily available for the homeless or less fortunate. The public would be interested in precautions on how to prevent the spread of diseases and illnesses. Realistically this is a challenge that our world faces and is one of the many reasons why I want to pursue a degree in nursing. My desire to enter into the medical field and become a nurse stems back to when I was an adolescent; I can remember watching Dr. 90210 do multiple surgeries on patients and I can just remember myself saying “I want to be able to make people feel good about themselves, no matter what.”…

After working as a computer programmer for 13 years, I found myself without a job when I was laid off as jobs were outsourced to countries outside of the United States. I thought it would be relatively easy to find another job, but soon found the market was saturated with new graduates willing to do the same work for less money. I decided to get my CNA license and work in the medical field. I loved working with patients and decided to jump back into school and pursue a degree in nursing. Although there have been nights with little sleep, tears, and many meals of scrambled eggs, grilled cheese, or cold cereal, I have never regretted going back.…

The decision to become a Registered Nurse was brought on by my past experiences which made me appreciate the field and merits of nursing. As a new nurse, I gave little thought to the physiology behind wounds themselves, often finding myself just carrying out care orders and trying to prevent complication. It was 8 years ago when I became a home care nurse and had some real life exposure to the effects of wounds/ostomy’s on a patient's overall health and self-conception. My goals after becoming WOC is first to broaden my knowledge in the use of advanced therapies and technology, then apply this knowledge to achieve better outcomes for the patients we serve in the community. Second being WOC with a greater knowledge base, will allow me to…
