Ever since I was a child, I loved anything to do with the medical field and the science behind it. I always imagined myself as a doctor taking care of patients like the doctors on TV. When I got older and learned what it took to be a doctor and the years of school I would have to attend, I started rethinking that as my career path. Through my college career I have continuously switched majors within the health science field. I saw many things that interest me, but once I shadowed a certain career path I realized that was not what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. I looked into many different health care fields anyone suggested, except nursing. Whenever someone suggested to me about being a nurse, I would always turn my nose up at them thinking “How could they suggest such a mediocre job?” It wasn't until I got older and learned it's the nurses that are taking care of the patients and providing the personal attention.
I work as a Patient Transporter at Barnes Jewish Hospital. My job is to take patients to and from testing areas and rooms, so I have a lot of interaction with nurses and patients. Working at the hospital I have been able to experience the nursing field more and l learned that I …show more content…
Nurses are disrespect by family and patients, spit on, physically assaulted by patients, and have many bad days. But the job is still an awarding one. You get to take care and bring a person back to good health. You get to meet so many different people who will leave a mark in your life. No matter your economic state, religion, race, gender or whatever they are treated the same. You also learn how precious life is and at any moment something can happen and it can be you in that hospital bed. The difference between doctors and nurses is a doctor diagnose patients and are rarely seen, but nurse is the one putting in the work around the clock caring for the patients wellbeing and making the hospital stay as pleasant as
