Getting a degree and going to college had always seemed like a distant and far away dream for me ever since I was young. It was intimidating for me to think that someday I would step for the first time into a college classroom and begin something that I thought was so far away. However, I knew that taking that one step into the classroom would not only begin a long and hard journey in my life but that it would also change my life forever.

However, looking forward to the near future, my main academic goal is to be able to get my associates degree in highschool. Not only will I have completed two years of my Bachelor's degree in highschool but it will allow me to get the hard courses and materials done while still in highschool so that I will be able to concentrate on the subjects that are not as important or difficult while in college.
However, even though I know which classes I want to take and what path I want to be walking during college, I do know that there are going to be potential barriers that may slow my progress of achieving my goals. For example, the strongest intrinsic barrier that I have is anxiety. And the reason for that is because I am always anxious how my college plan is going to turn out, or how my grades will be when I receive my work back. Anxiety is something that I know will turn up as a barrier not once but multiple times as I go throughout my college journey.
However, even though anxiety is a big struggle for me, I know that I can overcome it if I stay committed to my goal and finish each task all the way through. One of the main ways I know that I am staying committed is by never giving up. Commitment is a serious

I am not the type of person that can go into the middle of a crowd and be fully immersed and able to comprehend what they are reading. In contrast, when I need to brainstorm ideas or concepts, I would very much rather do that with a group of people that give me different ideas or views than only have my own personal view and thoughts. However, one of the strategies that I am applying

I never thought that I would be sitting on top of a washing machine waiting for my clothes to dry while at the same time, writing a shitty first draft essay. It’s amazing where education can take you. In my first semester of composition, I read “Brainology” by Carol S. Dweck and “The Student Fear Factor” by Rebecca Cox. In Brainology, Dweck explains that there are two different mindsets: a growth mindset and a fixed mindset. Raising a child with a growth mindset is better than raising with a fixed mindset. As parents have to teach and motivate them for a growth mindset. “In the 1990s, parents and schools decided that the most important thing for kids to have was self-esteem” (Page 3, para 1), teaching the child to have a high self-esteem was a big deal. Most of the student were of low-self-esteem, which will make the lack of knowledge and the ability to learn new things. In GPS 1010, I have learned that a person’s mindset is established in (1) a particular way of thinking; or (2) a person’s attitude and set of opinions about something. In addition to these items, one can either have a growth mindset or a fixed mindset. These mindsets play a huge role in one’s success or failure. The mindset has “two meanings to ability, not one: a fixed ability that needs to be proven and a changeable ability that can be developed through learning” and repetition. To sum up, “the fixed mindset makes you concerned with how you’ll be judged; the growth mindset makes you concerned with improving.”…
