Why I Chose College

Improved Essays
I decided to apply to this University because I wanted to be a student of a college that would not only give me the information that I need to be successful in my future career, but would also give me life experiences and prepare me for living in the world as an adult. I grew up in a small town and I want a change of scenery. I want to have more opportunities to meet and work with a variety of people and I believe that this college can give me these opportunities because it is a large, public college. I like that this college is in a more urban setting instead of a city and that it is not too far away from home. Although this is a larger school, the class sizes are not too big, so I would still be able to have one-on-one time with the teacher

The iconic figure, John F. Kennedy, an American president of the United States, once famously said, "The goal of education is the advancement of knowledge and the dissemination of truth. " Education is the single most important factor in the development of a country. When I thought about why going to college was so important, I remembered my high school years, when I enrolled in Robert A. Millikan High School in Long Beach, California. It was there, where I was amazed by academia-a rigorous community concerned with: research, education, and scholarship. Making it to college gave me a general surrounding and improved my lifestyle for the better.…

Applying to college as a transfer student is something I never would have thought was a possibility if one we to ask my high school freshman self. That is because I never would have been able to identify the potential positive outcomes that arise from going to a community college and then attempting to transfer out to a four year. Transferring has allowed me to become a much more competitive applicant than I would’ve been as a freshman applicant. In turn this has allowed me to consider more prestigious universities throughout the application process. Another major factor in my decision to transfer is that I have immigrant parents who have to get three kids through college.…

My existence has been a roller coaster of up 's and down 's, questions of whether I should be the intelligent and conservative daughter my mother expects me to be. As a result, for the longest time I 've wanted to please and live up to my family 's expectations. Even though, I get harshly reprimanded often. Which tends to depress and improve my studies depending on the situation, Eventually I had mustered enough courage and gathered weeks worth of information to back up my desire to go overseas for college. Although I wasn’t sure how to tell my family the plan I had thought out for college, so i started small and decided to tell my parents first to gauge how they would react, and then I would break the news to the rest of the family.…

In these nineteen years of my life and being a college student for about two years, the one thing that I have come to realize is that getting a higher education from a good college is the key to success. I was raised mostly by my grandparents and my single mother while growing up. My grandma continued her education at Central Arizona College for her certificate in education, while my grandpa only obtained his high school diploma. My parents and grandparents come from poor families and not many college graduates. Even though they didn’t have any sort of college fund set aside for me they always tried to help me with my homework and give me words of wisdom and encouragement.…

School had never been something that I gave my full attention to and I would have much rather spent my free time on the volleyball court or in the gym than to be studying for my next test.…
