What do you want to be when you grow up? This is the number one question everyone asks. As a child, knew I wanted to become a baker, and far as I could remember that is what I wanted to be. However, as I grew older I began realize that being a baker was similar to becoming an actress or a singer. Though, this what I began to comprehend was that people were really messed up in the head, not physically but psychologically. This is where the concept of psychology came into place, and just like every other subject in the world, clinical psychology and spoke to me. I knew from that day on what I wanted to be.
People think you need a physical symptom in order to have something clinically wrong with you. Though, when it comes to clinical psychology, most of the signs are hidden are in the mind. Most of the disorders in this field, deal with the mind and how it tricks its self into doing the wrong things, this would mostly associate with schizophrenia, psychosis, obsessive compulsive disorder, or bipolar disorders. Not only was I going to major in it, but I also want to get my PhD in the field, so that I could become a psychiatrist. I could like to be able to research people’s brains and help them get better. I want to open up my own practice either in Texas or Washington state and also run my own research on the people who come in asking for my help. Another thing I’d like to do is that I want to make a big change in psychology. I am not sure how, but I do know that I want to make a difference. I have many goals in my life; some will take years, and I may fail many times in order to reach my goal, but I don’t care. I am determined to achieve my goal. I intend to prove to everyone that I am able to accomplish my

The Medical Model view both behavioral and emotional problems as a mental illness. Mental health is basically defined as having a state of well-being were each person realizes their own potential, ability to cope with stressful normality and can be productive by being able to make a contribution to the community. The approach of this model derived from a notion of being emotionally disturbed by demons and declared mad. The perception then led to “disturbed” individuals to be in need of help as it stimulated research that promoted developmental therapeutic approaches. The Interactional Model asserts that medical labels have no diagnostic or treatment value and frequently have an adverse effect.…

I was ten years ago and I can still vividly remember sitting on an old, wooden rocking chair while the words of The Very Hungry Caterpillar trembled off my lips to a room full of second graders. I can recall the eagerness and excitement that filled their little faces as I flipped from page to page. There was an abundance of curiosity and desire to learn in that classroom that made me happy that I decided on skipping recess to read to the younger students. There was a fire that lit in my ten-year-old body that day. That was the day where I finally had an answer to all the “What do you want to be when you grow up?”…

Even when I was young, I knew that I wanted to go into a career that would help people overcome any challenges they may face. However, it wasn't until my junior year AP Psychology class when I discovered a career possibility of neuroscience. The class was required to research psychology-related careers, and that is where I delved into a deep hole of neuropsychology discoveries, education requirements, responsibilities, etc. This research showed me that I truly love neuropsychology and how they can help people overcome their personal struggles, whether mental or physical.…

The question of our childhood seemed to be one that we can all recall: “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Typically, we would say things like, “I want to be an astronaut,” or, “I want to be a princess.” As kids, we think big; however, as we get older, we figure that these aspirations to be a ballerina, to be the president, become more farfetched. Instead, we set more day-to-day based goals. Our goals change all the time.…

“Everything happens for a reason.” Everyone has probably heard that saying at least once in their life. Some people might roll their eyes at how cliché it is but I believe in fate and that every step you’ve taken will lead you to your calling. A person is born for a sole purpose, that purpose might be unknown, but there is a hole to fill. There might be times when you feel lost at sea, gasping for air…

I have two goals in life, and the second is simply an extension of the first. The first is to be completely happy, and the second is to be a clinical psychologist. Almost every college in the nation has a psychology program, but Tufts has something more. Instead of offering only general psychology to undergraduate students, this school offers a concentration in clinical psychology. I want to make the most of every year I spend in school, which I can do best by going to Tufts and majoring in clinical psychology, which will help me reach my two…

If someone had asked me what I had wanted to be a year ago I would have said a sports medicine specialist. Ask me what I want to do now and I might say a pediatric psychiatrist. I started off joining ballet at age six, then to doing soccer at age eight, and then to cheer and swim.…

All throughout my childhood, it seemed that whenever my parents introduced me to somebody---relative, stranger, teacher, playmate--- I would be bombarded by a series of inquiries, my newfound acquaintance seeking to evaluate me as an individual. However, out of all the questions my interrogator could have selected, one always seemed to be the most prevalent: What do you want to be when you grow up? The answer varied day by day: age 5-“a firefighter!” age 7-“a marine biologist!”…

When I was little, I wanted to be a chemist. I imagined myself in the lab coat and with goggles on, carefully pouring electric blue liquids and jade green foam back and forth into various containers, until something had exploded and I had discovered the best way to make flowers the size of people. As I grew up, I lost this fantasy, but I gained more knowledge on how I wanted to influence the world. Funnily enough, I discovered what I really wanted to do when I started working at Chick-fil-A during the summer before my sophomore year. All of my friends had warned me against working in fast food, quoting horrible smells and ridiculous customers and tons of grease.…

My entire life I have always wanted to do something where I would be remembered positively by many people. I recall always telling myself I was going to become a backup dancer for a famous singer, become a singer myself, or maybe an actress. Better yet, I thought I could have been all three. As I entered middle school, I realized those goals were too surreal to even become the slightest bit possible, mainly since I am located in an area that most people haven’t even heard of. Back then, I was very uncertain about any career goals I have had.…
