Why I Chose A Consignment Sale

Why we chose it
I chose to do a consignment sale because I wanted to get to know that I actually helped someone. I didn’t want to collect items and then give them to a company. I wanted to see people be able to get things they could use. I also chose it because I wanted to do something I would be able to do again. I thought it would be a simple but challenging at the same time. I also did it to hang out with a couple of my friends and get work done. I think I also chose it because my mom usually donates my clothes and I wanted to see what might happen to them. I liked that I chose a consignment sale because it was fun.

Especially because I did it with my friends it wasn't boring. I have done community service before but it was different and I didn't like it, but this time was fun. I think if I were to do another church consignment sale with my friends it would be fun. I liked how we got to help people who weren't as fortunate as us. It wasn't to hard to make a difference in someone else's life.

It is important
I think it was important to do community service because most people aren't as fortunate as us. I think we are lucky and blessed. I think even though we personally aren't getting anything it is still important. I also think we could discover talents and abilities through community service. One more reason why community service is important is that it teaches us to be compassionate and understanding.

Why you made us do it
I think you made us do it because most of us take what we have for granted. We don't actually think how lucky we are. Most of us are in the 7th grade with phones. Some people don't even get a phone until they are living on their own in college. I think most of us are pretty spoiled and could probably ask our parents for almost anything and eventually get

The All My Life for Sale project by John Freyer was an interesting concept to sell the best items on eBay that represented his life in Iowa City, Iowa. One of the main components of his project was to follow all of his stuff he sold (Freyer, 2001). He was asking all of the highest bidders to provide the readers of All My Life for Sale with an update on the piece of his life that they acquired (Freyer, 2001). The items chosen had no real monetary value, but instead had stories of how he received them to what they did for him. The story behind each item is where the real value lied and people from all over wanted to be a part of his story.…

Before attending high school, my elementary school teachers would talk about civic engagement, and their descriptions lead me to believe that participating in community service would be boring and burdensome. I remember my teachers saying things like,” In high school you’re going to have to do community service in order to graduate. Such as volunteer at an elderly home, or an animal shelter.” Prior to actually completing a service project, I only had an unappealing image of community service in mind. However, once I got to high school, I grew to love community service as well as learn the importance of…

The thoughtof doing volunteer service never crossed my mind, until it became mandatory, in order to be inducted in the National Honor Society. After participating in a few projects and events, from what seemed to be a tedious activity turned out to be a rewarding experience.…

Community service means to help out those who are in need. To give some of your own time to be able to assist those who are less fortunate. During the Special Olympics I went with my AFJROTC group to volunteer our time to help out with the event. We helped out to run the games and make sure everything ran smooth for the participants. It was an enjoyable event but what really made it worthwhile was to see all of the kids being so excited to be able to compete in the event.…

Community service has always been a priority in my life, with this scholarship I will have more time and freedom to pursue my philanthropic goals. As a Diversity Scholar I currently volunteer 10- 12 hours a year for the Department of Community Engagement and Multicultural center on campus. Yet, due to my demanding work schedule I am unable to participate in many other community service projects. However, if selected for the Shawn Carter foundation scholarship I plan to meet the 25hr/ of community service requirement by joining the Diversity Outreach Team, Volunteering at the Campus food pantry, and Participating in Alternative Spring break. Not only is the participant regarded in higher esteem, the participant gets to take part in a satisfying experience that helps others in their community. Many people believe that there is nothing they can do to help in their communities, but that is simply not the case. There are opportunities in every community; you just have to dig deeper and look for them. I think the best part about community service is that you get to see your few minutes, hours, or days make a change for the better. In the past years I have participated in a variety of service activities that I have thoroughly enjoyed.…

As members of our high school’s Key Club, a community service international group, we pride ourselves in community service and our ability to enjoy the service projects we commit ourselves to. The benefits we reap from taking a part in community service goes beyond the mere hours for a sheet; we gain the morale and communication skills that the “real world” expects us to live up to. However, making community service a graduation requirement would make students dread the act, viewing service more as a chore rather than a self-enriching experience. Community service can enrich our experiences as teenagers and allow the opportunity to gain high morale and communication. For example, the Community Service Mission Statement of Dalton High School…
