Why Did I Choose My Major, and Why Wilmington University When originally considering a college as a high school senior, back in 2006, Delaware State University and Penn State were both at the top of my list. Both of these colleges accepted me as a student straight out of high school, although proud, I turned them both down. Later, I researched other schools in the area, and Wilmington University stuck out to me for so many reasons. The fact that they offered programs in so many different career fields allowed me to choose a school and still be undecided. The smaller class sizes made for more individualized attention, which I could definitely benefit from. Most importantly, Wilmington University would give me the ability to work around my schedule and not be obligated to take long semester classes which would prevent me from having time to focus on work and family. …show more content…
I started taking online classes at a local university just to get a feel for it, but it just wasn’t really to my liking. Once I was officially accepted into Wilmington University, I made arrangements to sit down with an academic advisor. The academic advisor introduced me to the world of Behavioral Science, which was a lot broader than Psychology and would give me more opportunities. This was exactly what I needed, since by this time I was up in the air on pursuing Psychology. At the time I was completely indecisive on what I really wanted to do with my life. I was so ecstatic about entering into the Behavioral science program and I had such a positive outlook on my

I initially signed up for PSYCH 1101 to fulfill a distribution requirement, but it turned out to be so much more for me. Having never been exposed to psychology in high school, I was curious to see what psychology was and whether I would like or not. Turns out, I liked it a lot. Taking PSYCH 1101 seemed to open my eyes to a whole new branch of science. The reason psychology interests me is because I can directly apply many of the studies not only to my own behaviors and thought processes, but also to the actions of those around me.…

What did you learn in this course that will help you to be more effective in your counseling work? I enjoyed working toward a definite goal, working on one day having the promise of having a good job. I looked at different professions and applied at a lot of schools, before finally choosing counseling, during this time I was on vacation and spending a lot of time considering all the options, and how they would impact my life. The work that we did was fun and interesting, I believe I have been frightened of a program being too over whelming, or not engaging me enough to for me to be productive I believed this course helped me balance, my ambitions, and helped me feel productive.…

For some, this process becomes unbearable and the solution for them is either test out or just drop out. However as tedious as a school has become, I stumbled upon a new area of interest that reignited my thirst for knowledge: psychology.…

One the most significant things that I learned in introduction to human services this semester was that everyone experiences situations differently, what might be something unimportant and minor to you might be a trigger for someone else. You should always be mindful of others, I think us as human beings we tend to be a bit selfish and like to think that the world revolves around us. Which, is ridiculous because the world has 7.3 billion people and counting, and what makes me more significant than all those other people? Sometimes I’ll go out to the store in a hurry and I’ll get a line with a cashier that is being extremely slow, and I get upset and start thinking of some nasty things about the cashier, without ever taking into consideration what that person might be going through.…

I am working on this now. I have taken the Advanced Placement Psychology class and passed the exam, and am enrolled in this university 's freshman learning community for psychology. A major in general, social, or behavioral psychology is expected, but it 's very helpful to have a diversity of classes dealing with different psychological fields. These majors will give you a basic understanding that 's necessary for completing the qualifications of becoming a bachelors degree. Behavioral psychology is in my opinion the best route to take as it teaches you the primary understanding of why people behave the way they do in certain situations.…
