Personal Narrative: A Career As A Physician

Improved Essays
There was a time where I was determined and committed to revolutionizing the medical field as a physician. I was moved by the idea that this would be the best career for me since they primarily help patients from a medical perspective and show compassion for others. Within four years of my undergraduate career, I did all that I was advised to do in preparation for medical school. However, despite completing all of the prerequisites, taking the MCAT, and shadowing a dermatologist, I still did not have the burning aspiration to go to medical school. Even though the amount of work I 've done made me an exceptional candidate, I know myself well enough to understand that I cannot pursue a career that I was not passionate about. However, when the therapy sessions became one-on-one sessions with just him and the therapist, he was able to openly express how he felt. One of the activities the therapist initiated with the client was when he selected movies based on his client 's interests. I remember all three of us watching a movie called, "Courageous," where it involved cops and how their jobs were impacted by their familial relationships. This movie was chosen because the client enjoys watching action-packed films that involved police officers. By appealing to the client 's interests, it strengthened the client and therapist relationship. I also admired how the therapist showed great interest in the client 's interests and needs. This opportunity gave me the fascination and ability to highlight the importance of how individuals and groups are affected by external factors and other relationships affiliated with them in a holistic perspective. I also enjoyed getting to know the clients and seeing how the guidance of the therapist helps them reach their goals, especially because I could relate to the

Most little girls dream of being a ballerina when they grow up, I was the little girl who dreamed of medical school. Anyone who was brave enough to ask got my vehement no when asked if I thought that the college, subsequent medical school, and training would be too much school or that I would get bored. Every field of medicine is extremely important in its own way and that fascinates me but one of the best days of my life was the day that my nephew was born on April 9, 2014. This approach is interesting because it addresses the resiliency of the client and the client can build upon a strength-based foundation to work towards solutions (George, 2008). I feel that this approach can be applied in many different situations to build on the strengths and past successes than to correct the past failures or mistakes. Secondly, in this approach the therapist understands, accepts, and uses the client’s unique worldviews during the process of identifying and amplifying exceptions (George, 2008). Lastly, this approach uses the imagination of client to visualize the future through questioning that can allow for a clear picture of what the solution may look like even when the problem may not be clearly defined. I find one of my strengths through the use of the peer evaluation form shows that I have good techniques to ask the right questions to gain a better understanding of the problem the client is presenting.…
