In addition, I would create a team teaching system so that all teachers have interaction with students so that the best teachers are not only teaching the brightest students. In the video, Supporting Cultural and Linguistic Diversity (Chen, D et al (2011,) it is implied that a culturally competent teacher/ leader is able to bring students culture into the classroom while teaching the dominant culture. In addition, cultural competency is finding relevant and or familiar items to make students more comfortable in their new surroundings. As a leader, you will rely heavily on your teachers to carry out the vision you have set for your campus. It is important to build trust in your teachers. In addition, the teachers have to share the same vision for the school and within their classrooms. Having highly qualified teachers will surely lead a campus in the right direction due to highly qualified teachers understanding the importance of equality for all. There are many different theories on what constitutes good ethical practices in education. However, it all comes down to what is considered right versus what is wrong. Perdro speaking at the Ross Institute. Mr. Noguera believes that a teacher should be like an “anthropologist” (Noguera, 2009). He states that as an educational leader you have to be careful of stereotype threats as it can affect one’s performance (Noguera, 2009). A great leader is able to train teachers on being able to connect to children on all levels and to see past cultural stereotypes. In the State of Texas of I believe that educational leaders spend a great deal of time focusing on Competency 008. It states that, “The principal knows how to apply principals of effective leadership and management in relation to campus budgeting, personnel, resource, utilization, financial management and technology use.” (Texas Education Agency, 2010). If a principal has the effective budgeting management skills, the principal in then able to ensure that the school has adequate resources. I think back to the principal interview that I was assigned to do for this class. I recall this competency being one of the proudest competencies that my principal spoke about.
