Family Counseling Goals

Growing up, I watched many marriages and relationships fail. Unfortunately, as a child, there was not much that I could do to help. It broke my heart to see so many of the people close to me divorce and or break up. I am certain that some of the families that were torn apart chose not to seek counseling, however, I can only imagine how much it would’ve helped if they had. Even as a child I wondered if there was something that I could do to help. Today, I am able to do what I was unable to do back then. I am able to take the steps necessary to become what I’ve always dreamed of becoming. I decided to pursue my degree in Marriage and Therapy Counseling so that I can fulfill my dream to be a professional Marriage Counselor.

In order to become a marriage and family counselor I must first obtain a master’s degree in Marriage and Family counseling. Unfortunately, many marriages end in divorce and many of the individuals involved have a hard time coping with it. Families suffer, and children are effected negatively. Marriage counseling is necessary and research shows that it is effective. I want to be as effective as possible at what I do. While pursuing my undergraduate degree I spent most of my summers as an Orientation Leader. Being an orientation leader allowed me to grow in my leadership skills, meet new people, and also blossom as an individual. One thing that I admire about myself is that I am very understanding and mature. I love to solve problems. Problem solving is something that I enjoy doing. I always find new ways to solve problems and I always try to think outside of the box. There are so many great things that I have to offer and so many great things that I think that I can contribute to not only the campus but to the counseling program. I hope that I am given the opportunity demonstrate my skills and not just write about them. After all, I truly believe that actions speak louder than words.
I believe that I am very computer literate. I am currently taking a web design course where I am learning how to build websites using HTML. I use a computer on a daily basis. If I am unfamiliar with any program, I am a fast learner and I can adapt easily. If there ever comes a time when I don’t understand something, I am always willing to take classes or take the steps necessary to familiarize myself with anything that I do not fully
