As a young child, I witnessed my father struggle with addiction. After my parents divorced and we were removed from the environment I always knew I would work with that population in life, but I did not know in what kind of sense, whether it was legal or mental health. I was passionate for that population because it was close and dear to my heart. I have always had the mentality that if I could help or save one person than everything I ever worked to that point has been worth it. Since no one can know in advance the destiny or outcome of an individual’s decision, Krumboltz used the Happenstance Learning Theory as an attempt to explain why individuals follow certain career paths in life and how counselors can use this theory to guide their clients through this process. The Happenstance theory explains that every situation (planned or unplanned) is a potential opportunity for someone, as long as they are open and willing to capitalize on these moments. In my own life, I can look back and see where Happenstance…

I will benefit in studying to be a counselor because of the many difficult relationship experiences in my past. As a man raised in the Christian faith that subsequently entered the fitness industry, I have firsthand experience with the trials of temptation and sin and how they affect relationships. The “Glory of the Lord is My Strength”, was one of my favorite hymns growing up. Yet I often ignored those words, and consequently wasted a lifetime by relying primarily on my own abilities, strengths and rationale, in making life-decisions that would inevitably cause destruction, extreme loss and suffering. Rather than waiting on the Lord for his perfect timing and purpose for my life, I routinely became impatient and chose my own direction.…

My entire life I have always wanted to do something where I would be remembered positively by many people. I recall always telling myself I was going to become a backup dancer for a famous singer, become a singer myself, or maybe an actress. Better yet, I thought I could have been all three.
