Why I Am Like Athena

Decent Essays
The Greek god I am most like is Athena. One main points of reasoning why I am like Athena is because, we share similar traits. She is the god of wisdom, weaving, and she created numbers. Her symbol is that of the owl and olive tree branch (Hamilton 29). “Zeus was suffering a terrible headache and Athena emerged from his head fully grown, warring a suit of armor (Bierlein 27).” I to tend to get bad headaches especially if I don’t eat to the point that I think my head might explode. My favorite bird is the Snow Owl. I can quilt, which is a similar skill to that of weaving. My favorite class is always math. Another reasoning why I’m like Athena is because I hate to be insulted. Athena turned Medusa into a gorgon when she claimed she

Perseus was demanded to embark on a heroic, life threatening journey to claim Medusa’s head and present it as a gift to the new couple Polydektes and Danae. The first obstacle Perseus was able to overcome was the fear of facing the Gorgon Medusa. The Gorgon’s head was made of snakes, with boar tusks, bronze hands, and wings of gold. The second obstacle Perseus overcame was to somehow not look into Medusa’s eyes and exterminate the Gorgon. He was able kill Medusa with the help of Hermes and Athena as he used Athena’s mirror to look at Medusa’s reflection.…

The article written by Michael Murrin addresses three aspects of Athena inhabits in The Odyssey. The main argument that would be focused in my paper is Athena serving as a “Military Goddess” with malice intentions towards the end of the novel. We do not see her real intention of her companionship with Odysseus until the scene where Odysseus finally comes home to Ithaca. Although she helps Odysseus get home to his wife (despite the stalling from other gods/goddesses), she wants Odysseus to kill everyone of the suitors. Athena also proves to have similar traits of Odysseus throughout the novel, of being sly and witty.…

The three fictional characters that most represent my personality are Gohan for his/her shyness, Mr Krabs for his selfish nature, and Marvin the Martian for his seriousness and clumsiness. Even though Mr Krabs is a crab who owns a restaurant under the sea in a show, it does not mean we do not have similarities; we both are very stingy and selfish for what we desire and work for. In many…

A hero is someone who steps up when everyone else backs down. Heros come in all different sizes but are recognized as people who are admired for their great qualities and good deeds. Both Athena, a goddess from the book the Odyssey by Homer and Harry Potter, a wizard from the book series by JK Rowling are considered great heros. While it is true that Athena is a great hero, it could be said that Harry Potter appears to be an even greater hero because he is loyal, selfless and has courage. Both Athena and Harry Potter are heros that share the quality of selflessness.…

Me in Literature The character I'm most like appears in a book called The Impossible Knife of Memory, this story is about a girl named Hayley Kincain and her journey of dealing with a new school and her dad’s PTSD and addiction. I feel like I relate to Hayley for a couple of different reasons some being we both moved schools lots of times, our dads’ addictions, and the constant struggle of keeping our home life a secret. First off Hayley is a military brat which means she moved around a lot, and because of that she learned not to get attached to a certain place or people. When Hayley’s dad is honorably discharged he starts to develop PTSD and begins drinking because of this he can’t seem to hold a job down.…

I cut a piece of paper in a circle and drew the god Hypnos's head to represent my first accomplishment of waking up from my then state and doing something to reach my goal of attending college. Hypnos is the god of sleep and awakening and symbolically I felt as if I was in a slumber that I was finally able to awaken from, so I thought he was the perfect representation of me at that time. The second god I chose was Athena and she symbolizes my accomplishment of getting the grades I wanted by gaining the knowledge of how to control my time, self, and life. Not by any means do I presume I have Athena's wisdom, but I was able to gain some insight about myself during certain classes such as my SLS class. Athena is the goddess of wisdom and one of her symbols is the owl, so I cut out the outline of an owl to symbolize Athena.…

There are many characters that you could pick apart and compare yourself to in this story, but an intriguing character that I am both similar and different to is Clarisse. She is very curious and opinionated like I am on a daily basis. Clarisse was never fearful to speak her mind and ironically enough, this might have led to her downfall. One trait I admire her for is being a dreamer and an idealist. Based on her actions and speech, you might conclude that she was a happy, curious soul because she or her family read books.…

Furthermore, Athena also provides Odysseus with tremendous support throughout his voyage. You can see during the war in troy, he was with Clypso, and only her asking her father to send Hermes to deliver him and then when Odysseus landed in the island of the Phaecians; Athena makes him look attractive, this way Nausicaa, a Phaeacian princess, would love him and be willing to help him back home. Athena also disguises herself so many times to assist Odysseus. For example, in Book 7, Athena disguises herself as a young girl, and helps Odysseys find the Phaeacians palace. The Hope Athena’s modern display is strategically designed in order to compliment her origin and the place she was uncovered. She stands on one side of a doorway while another statue, the Hope Hygieia, stands on the other side. While Athena was the goddess of war and daughter to Zeus, Hygieia was the goddess of continued good health and is where the modern term hygiene comes from. Both statues were excavated in 1797 in the ruins of an elaborate mansion and it's incredible to think that they are currently standing next to each other nearly two centuries after their discovery. Apart from their theme of unity, the two statutes help balance each other out as well.…

Upon first meeting Telemachus, both Athena (in the disguise of family friend the Mentor) and Menelaus remark upon the uncanny physical resemblance between father and son: Athena exclaims, “you must be, by your looks, Odysseus’ boy?/ The way your head is shaped, the fine eyes – yes,/ how like him”, and Menelaus also notes the “likeness”, observing that “Odysseus’ hands and feet were like this boy’s;/ his head, and hair, and the glinting of his eyes” (I.244-6; IV.155-7). This familial resemblance grows over the course of the Odyssey, as Telemachus also becomes more like his father in terms of personality and character traits. While he first appears before Athena (Mentor) as a resentful “boy” who is unable to defend his father’s household and…
