My Definition Of A Leader Essay

Improved Essays
The World Book dictionary defines leader as “A person, animal, or thing that leads.” Although that is the generic definition of a leader, I see a leader as more than that. A leader is not someone who just has people following, listening to him/her or someone who orders people around because to me, that isn’t a leader. That to me sounds like a ruler or dictator. To me, a leader is someone who exemplifies outstanding skills in helping a group of people and taking into consideration every group member 's opinion. An example of who people should be and/or follow, leaders. That is me. I exemplify the true definition of a leader in more ways than one. Not only by showing leadership skills during group comps but also overcoming the challenges being …show more content…
Most of those times, I have had challenges and successes, but I have expanded my leadership skills. In school, I am a leader when I have group comps. All of my group members didn’t fully understand the topics we have learned, so I step up and acknowledge that I need to help them. I lead them in these group comps by showing them my knowledge on these topics and taking them step by step and making sure that when it comes to the individual comp, they are able to do it on their own no matter how much time it takes us to finish a problem, because that 's what leaders are for. To help guide your group members in understanding your point of view as well as making sure no one is left behind and you’re all on the same page. There are many challenges that come up when being a leader. Group members don’t care about their grades so they don’t listen to me and others just want to work alone, but a challenge that has come up continuously with being a leader for group comps is no one understanding how the question is solved and how to get the answer. When I come upon this type of challenge, I take in everyone 's opinion. We work as a group with all our different points of views and solve the problem as best we can. Although these challenges are difficult, I pull through for the group and lead them the best I can. The success about being a leader is being able to see how group members change their mind about not working together and not caring about their grades. Being able to see how I changed their minds with a little persuasion and allowing me to be their leader. This is what’s best about being a leader, but as a person and a leader I must continue working on my leadership skills, because they will never be perfect. I will always come across new

Throughout history the National Honor Society has become synonymous with the best of the best. A school club that has built a legacy on students who exemplify the ideals of leadership, service, character, and citizenship. To even be considered for a group of this nature would be an honor within itself. Leadership is simply defined as the action of leading a group of people or an organization however, I believe leadership to be much more than simply being in charge. True leadership is simply more than being bossy and I have learned this through my experiences within boy scouts.…

When many think of a leader they think of a person that commands directions for a group. My definition, however, is a little different, as a leader I like to show the way by example rather than authorities order. Along with being a leader I also strive to be respectable by having strong core values and not being afraid to stand up for what I believe in, despite how many followers I have, as long as I am acting with honesty and integrity. From someone not under the responsibility of a leadership role, it may seem like a wonderful job, since they can escape from the usual workload that a non-leader has to put up with, and have authority over others. Yet, they tend to overlook the amount of dedication and self-evaluation that a leader has to go through in order for their group to succeed. One must better and uphold themselves to a high standard in order to be an efficient leader, and not for power alone. They must have a wide knowledge of their position and patience to help others in case an issue or situation arises. When things go wrong, the leader, not the group, is blamed, and often is the one that pays for the consequences that their peers have done under their watch.…
