As I look back on this class, I realize that it may have been one of the most influential and important classes of the semester. Not only did I learn a lot about how to be a successful teacher, but I also learned a lot about myself, and I made many friends. I needed this course this semester. I was starting to feel like I was missing out on friendships in college, but after this class I know that I have many friends and I made three close friends. This class was also important to me because I was starting to question if I was wasting my time becoming a teacher. In college and even in high school, it is rare to form a relationship with more than a few people. However, by the end of the semester I knew everyone’s name and I felt like I actually knew them at least a little bit as a person. I think that a community style classroom is one of the best ways to teach, and I have developed this opinion over the past semester because I used to think that there was no order or control in these types of classrooms. However, when the classroom is a community the students feel more comfortable and their learning is increased. In the community style classroom, every student participates. Every student was heard, and every one was a part of the discussion. This allowed for us to hear many different perspectives. Creating a classroom that is a community is more beneficial for the students, even if it is more work for the teacher. In community classrooms, the teacher has to be a commanding presence, but not over bearing, and the teacher has to let their students learn and create discussion on their own. Having a community allowed me to learn more than I would have just from the teacher. Also, our community was fun. It was exciting to see how people developed as the semester went along. We grew as individuals and we grew as a class. I think that each and every one of us has seen an idea that we will use in our classroom that one of our peers used to teach an interesting lesson. When we work as a community we gain more knowledge, and receive more help and support than when we sit alone isolated in a classroom of
