Intending to be a police officer, my dad was a sociology major. So he took many humanities type classes and did a lot of work pertaining to human society. Back then they hand wrote their papers till completion, then typed them out either on a computer or typewriter, whereas now a days we draft and edit and do everything from our laptops or personal computers. When they had to do research they had to go to the library, from books, actually reading. It’s crazy how lazy it makes today’s students look compared to back then. Ongoing with his first day, he moved into Thomas hall, ironically just a few doors down from my dorm room. He told me all he brought to school with him was clothes, bedding, a fridge, toiletries, and basic school supplies, and that was it. There was no need for anything else at the time. People didn’t base their relationships with people on their cell phone and social media. People actually went out and me people and talked to one another and had intellectual conversations. Back when my dad was in college, Regan was the president and one of the biggest thing on the news at the time was the discovery explosion. Also the Cold War was still going on but was to soon end. At the time there were many advancements in technology, one of the biggest that he remembers was the FAX machine. It was like nothing he had ever seen before. Some other less widely used technologies at that time was the personal computer, World Wide Web, and mobile phones. These technologies weren’t to boom for a few more years.
