I am a physician, currently studying Master of Science in Public Health (MSPH) in International Health (Track: Global Disease Epidemiology and Control) at the Johns Hopkins University (JHU). I studied Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in Bangladesh.
I was raised in a rural area of Bangladesh and witnessed a lot of avoidable premature deaths and sufferings from diseases among people in my area. I became interested in public health as I wanted to do something for them. I preferred public health instead of clinical medicine, as in clinical medicine, a doctor could only treat an individual patient while in public health, a researcher could serve a large number of people with his findings. My practical research experience started with the Residential Field Site Training (RFST) during my fourth year in medical school. I also worked in the community as a volunteer of several students’ organizations.
After completion of my internship training and some higher training in medicine, I joined a large research team, namely Project for Advancing Health of Newborns and Mothers (ProjAHNMo).
