Improved Essays
When asked what I wanted to be when I grow up as far back as in my elementary years , I never minced word about wanting to be a pharmacist. A story my mother told me about an incidence that occurred during my childhood inflamed this early desire to pursue pharmacy as a career. According to my mother, at about year two, I swallowed Valium tablets that I found lying around in the house. Consequently, I started acting irrationally, laughing uncontrollably and became sleep-deprived. Without a doubt, I ended up in the emergency room once my parents discovered what had happened .
Apparently this story lingered on in my brain as I continued to be intrigued by “the magic” in this medicine that made me mentally unstable at such a young age. In order

However while in pharmacy school in Nigeria, I found out that the practice of pharmacy in Nigeria was not at par with international standards and I wanted more. This became clearer during my final year thesis where my project was on pharmaceutical care in developed countries with USA as a model and researched the possibility of having Nigerian pharmacist provide such standard of Care. Naturally, I threw myself into this project and not only finished with an A grade but kindled another desire but this time to practice pharmaceutical which will be possible outside Nigeria. To this end I applied and enrolled in a masters program in pharmaceutical services and medicine control at University of Bradford in the UK where I finished with a distinction.
Furthermore, during my masters program, I discovered there are more intricate processes that are involved in proper medication use. As a result, I wrote my thesis on the use of Medicine (which I also finished with an A grade] where I reviewed a number of scientific journals in an attempt to compare, find out and proffer probable ways on pharmacist role in improving medicine use in Nigeria. This continued to foster my inclination to pharmacy practice outside Nigeria and in the united states in

In addition, I will like advance my career by specializing as a consultant pharmacist or as a clinical pharmacist. These are areas my present qualification does not give me an easy access into. For example, having a Pharm D is a requirement for application for residency programs and certifications in areas of interests such as Oncology, cardiology and anticoagulation.
Being a part of this program will not only enhance my clinical knowledge but also prepare me for future undertakings in my professional journey.
MCPHS is my choice for this next step of my life because of the proven track records in producing well-trained pharmacists. Likewise, I have heard and read about the high academic standards required of students at MCPHS and I am excited about the prospect of getting a worthwhile education that will gives me an edge in my career. This will help me gain the knowledge and skills that are beneficial to my professional career and my understanding of the FDA’s contribution to public health. I decided to attend Florida A&M University (FAMU) for a variety of reasons, including the location of its campus, because I was offered a full scholarship, and of course, because of the pharmacy program. Moreover, I believe that I am the ideal candidate for being a part of FAMU’s pharmacy program. To begin, FAMU is located in Tallahassee, Florida, a city that I had wanted to attend college in since I was in elementary school. Tallahassee is a city of containing and surrounded by many events and opportunities, so no matter your preferred “scene,” you are likely to be able to find something you do. Another upside to FAMU’s location is that it also places me very close to my mother and the rest of my maternal family, who I had previously not gotten to see almost since elementary school.…

I recently had the chance to listen to an entertaining lecture by Dr. Wes Pilkington. As he began talking, I could tell that his speech was going to be somewhat different than those I had heard before him. While he did not do a residency and was not extensively involved in leaderships roles like many of our other speakers, he has still found success after graduation. Although these activities are both important, he highlighted the significance of our rotations. He also offered us a unique perspective on the dangers of pharmacy, as he was the victim of a pharmacy robbery.…

Similar to Mulan’s fate when she had courageously enrolled in the Chinese military in order to protect her feeble father, I was forced to take on responsibilities that I was not ready for at that age, but under the circumstances, chose to embrace them. August 25, 2012, was the day I had finally made the A-team for volleyball after frequently being told I was not exceptional enough. I remember I was so ecstatic to inform my parents for all they did was support me. Meanwhile, that excitement began to gradually dwindle away when I was still expecting to get picked up an hour after try outs had ended. Finally, after many unanswered phone calls, my aunt had responded and had immediately agreed to pick me up.…

I also joined a rigorous Pharmacy Technician Certification class and interned at CVS, an experience that taught me to work fast and in an organized fashion, be social with colleagues and customers, and teamwork skills such as assisting a customer or answering phone calls for co-workers. These responsibilities taught me to make use of time and be more social. This environment was amazing to me because I had always wanted to understand how a pharmacy is managed. In the end, I passed the state exam to become a certified Pharmacy…

During my employment at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates in Boston I was able to work with a graduate of MCPHS, Kaiming (Kyle) Chiang, MPAS, PA-C. His knowledge and comprehension of his role as well as his eagerness to always do more inspired me. Kyle’s professionalism and confidence led him to be a favorite among several patients; he was able to diagnose with confidence; and was able to communicate with the patients in a way that they would be able to understand. Kyle was always an advocate for MCPHS and as I continued to work with him I was able to see, not only his passion, but the knowledge he gleaned from his time at MCPHS. I knew that MCPHS was not only a school that prepared their students well for the workplace, but also teaches them in a manner where patient education and…

As I sat anxiously in my desk the last day of high school, I felt compelled and overwhelmed to decide what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I knew I wanted to pursue a career in healthcare because of my mother, who was a registered nurse. Witnessing the love and care my mother had for every patient even when she was not on the clock really inspired the drive for me to impact the lives of others just as I saw her do. Although after I shadowed one of my mother’s colleagues, I knew I could not handle the gory aspects that are associated with most healthcare professions; however, this shadowing experience led me to discover my initial desire to help others and make a difference. I owe my foremost interest in pursuing a career in pharmacy to my paternal grandparents.…
