Personal Essay: A Career As A Nurse

When I was young, my greatest dream is to become a nurse, because I have an innate desire to help sick people. This started when I visited my aunt in the hospital when I was 4 years old, I saw how fulfilling was the roles of a nurse. I admire them for being a hero at times of emergency. However, the nature of their job is physically, mentally, emotionally exhausting, still nurses able to manage their time and finish their work contentiously. What I like the most being a nurse is that, they are working with a stethoscope hanging in their neck, wearing white uniform and white cap that makes them look respectable and presentable. Therefore, taking up nursing is one of the best decision I have made.

Honestly, I enjoyed everything, because I love my job, I’am happy to work with patients and I have been lucky enough to have had the pleasure of meeting some healthcare professionals who have inspired me a lot and I hope that one day, I will have the same level of skills to be an inspiration to others and guide newly graduated nurses in the workplace, because I know how challenging their position in the hospital as novice. Firstly, nurses in Australia were aware that they are going to encounter different behaviour of clients and the diversity of cul-ture of people as well. Nurses in my country only knows to adapt to different religious norms and beliefs and need more to emphasise the differences of other cultures. Challenges that I will be facing in Australia as a registered nurse would be the difference in practices because, in the Philippines we have different standards for nursing interventions. However, to manage these difficulties that I will be encountering in the future, it is better for me to be more ob-servant, keen to learn more and be sensitive to one culture, as I will be working soon in Aus-tralia, I will be meeting different kinds of people with varieties of behaviour and
