Can you give your job title and a brief job description?
Currently I am a financial advisor at Cetera Financial Specialists, LLC. I also run my own financial services practice where I aid clients in everything from managing their investments to preparing their tax returns. As of late, most of my time has been spent growing my private practice. While most of my clients seek me out for tax planning, I am also qualified to sell insurance (Life and disability), as well as numerous other financial planning services. Lately, I have been helping a lot of clients out with college plans as well.

Can you briefly describe your educational background?
I received my bachelors in accounting at the University of Illinois at Chicago. I also hold CPA and CFP designations, along with numerous FINRA Registrations. These include Series 6, Series 62, Series 63, and Series 65. I am also certified to issue life and health insurance.

Have you ever taken a course in business communication/writing?
While I was required to take a general speech communication class, I was never required to take a class specific to business communication. Of course, I received my degree before it was required to have a business communication class to sit for the CPA.

I think in the past it would have been enough to have a strong knowledge of financial accounting or tax. Today, accountants need to be able to sell themselves and their firm. To do this, strong written and verbal communication skills are essential. I think it is possible for someone with an average knowledge of accounting concepts to make it to the top based on their ability to connect and communicate with clients. Bringing in business is a very important part of my job. I know that it is very important to public accounting firms as well. Bringing in clients is one of the best ways to add value to the firm.
