The cultural foundation on which I was raised is a fundamental factor in who I am today. One of the reasons that I am who I am is because I am in college. Attending college is a norm that I always intended to follow. Neither of my parents attended college, but I was always told that I had to attend. The expectation of going to college motivated me to get good grades in high school. I knew that I needed scholarships, so I had to try my best, and it led to the academic success that I have. Because I pushed myself, I realized that I am great at math. Although I am no longer in a major that focuses on math, I am a tutor on campus. Without the push to go to college, I would have never found my love for learning. The role I play for each is very important. As a daughter, my parents want me to achieve more than they did when they were my age. As an older sister, I am expected to take care of my brother when needed. These roles that I play have influenced me to be very mature in my upbringing. I was the only child in my family that was in my age group growing up, so I always was around the adults. This helped me mature into the person I am, because I skipped most of the immaturity that most young people go

Transferring to University of Maryland, Baltimore County will allow me to achieve my goals both in educational and personal aspects. The institution has a Biological Sciences degree which allows me, as a soon to be graduate from Hagerstown Community College with an Associate’s in Biology, to pursue and finish the next level of post-secondary education, achieving a Bachelor’s degree. In addition to pursuing a degree in Biological Sciences, UMBC has many clubs and activities to be involved in which will allow me to create new friends and provide a way to network with other students that has the same goals as me. I strongly believe that at my local community college, most of the students and professors don’t share similar ideas and goals as me and was difficult to find and achieve things I want to do after college. Thus, my passion to learn has slump down a bit.…

I was only six at the time, and I can’t help but think, if he didn’t make it through that accident on that horrible day, how my life would been completely different now, and not in a good way.…

Life is full of opportunities and when they come around you take them. Everyone has opportunities; the only difference is that some don’t take advantage of it and that is the difference of someone who wants to succeed and someone who doesn’t.
