Why I Choose SUNY Empire State College

Improved Essays
My education has been of extreme importance for me for as long as I could remember. I was unable to finish my studies at my last college because of financial issues. During my search for online schools, I came across SUNY Empire State College. After looking more into the college, I felt that this would be a great choice of a college to continue and finish off my undergraduate degree. I chose SUNY Empire State College because I like that there are options to take classes online, on campus or a combination of both. Being able to take online classes to finish my degree are helpful and convenient because I would have difficulty getting to campus on a day to day basis. This woman raised me to be who I am today. My grandmother meant the world to me and there is not a day that goes by that I do not think of her. I was right in the middle of spring semester and I thought that I should just quit. I had honestly thought that school was not for me and that I should just find a job and work there for the rest of my life. But then I thought of what would have made her happy which was seeing me happy. After thinking about the reasons why I had wanted to become a teacher, I had remembered why and I knew that I had to try my hardest to keep going. With that being said I would like to think that one of my biggest strengths would have to be determination, dedication and belief. I will never give up on my dream of becoming a teacher. I am fighting hard to find the best ways to finish my degree. I am not giving up on myself because I believe that I can do better and be better than I was six years ago. I believe that my grandmother would want to see me be better than I can ever be and that right there is the best motivation that I could ever think of. I currently work at a daycare and I teach children ages 18 months to 24 months. Working with them is very different from the age that actually want to teach, but working with them has given me so much guidance into a portion of what I would be having to do as a high school teacher. At my current job, I have to make a weekly curriculum for day to day activities. We have parent teacher conferences twice a year and I have to track the children on their developmental milestones. I love working with the kids and I love seeing them get excited to learn new things every day. I believe in myself and I believe that everything that I have overcame will help me to be the best student that I can be at SUNY Empire State

I spent many hours after school sitting in the sparsely active cafeteria, while she served the students with a smile on her face. My Grandma was a kind, selfless woman who would never let you go hungry. A. Autobiographical Statement My mother was the first and only person in her family to graduate from college, which has always been an inspiration to me. She was an abused wife on food stamps, raising two children on her own while my father was incarcerated. I will always remember when she told me that life was like a lotus flower; we may start by growing in the mud but each day we can choose to bloom above the water into a beautiful flower. It was then that I understood my childhood was not my choice, but how I choose to live the rest of my life was. My mother never wavered in her faith that if I wanted to do something in my life the only thing that could hold me back was myself.…
