Why High School Is Important To Me

There I was on June 10, 2013 sitting in an auditorium filled with proud parents, uncles, aunts, siblings, teachers, and most importantly students. Today was the day I was promoted to the ninth grade and could consider myself a freshman in high school. Nothing felt better than knowing that I was making others proud, but then I stopped and thought about what was ahead because I knew I was not done yet. Being congratulated by my mother, siblings, and grandparents meant a lot to me because aside from myself, they were who I was graduating for. Not only did graduating and going to high school mean something to me, but it meant a little bit more to them. Some relatives in my immediate family didn't receive the chance to finish school and by me setting the bar and finishing school meant much more than I expected. Going to high school gave me the chance to reinvent myself as a person. Being with the older kids, not being treated like a baby anymore, freedom, sports, everything was like candy to me- sweet, enjoying, wonderful- but there are consequences to eating too much candy. …show more content…
As a result, I didn't complete any of my school work. I made some poor choices along the way by not balancing both academics and extracurricular activities; instead, I merely focused on hanging out with the older kids, athletics, and being lazy when it came to school work. My first report card came back and reflected that I was a D+ and F student. Seeing this stunned me, but I was still caught up in having fun in high school and so it continued throughout the year. Eventually, I received my consequence going into my sophomore year. I attended another school because I was uninvited back to where I started. On top of that, I had to go to summer school and accept the grades on my transcript. My cumulative grade point average was below a
