Obesity as well as Type-2 diabetes have become an ongoing problem in the United States in the recent years. The ingredients used in most of the foods people are consuming are artificial. These lab-created ingredients take major tolls on our bodies. Many questions have been raised about the effects of some ingredients more than others. High Fructose Corn Syrup(HFCS) is one of the more questionable ingredients in most people’s diets. Many health issues have been linked to HFCS. It is mainly used in the sugary, delicious beverages such as sodas. Although people have the right to choose what they want to eat and drink, HFCS should be banned in beverages served at American; hence, HFCS has been linked to health issues such as Type-2 diabetes and heart disease. Admittedly, it is true that people deserve the right to make the choice of what they like to eat and drink. But, most people are not informed of serious health risks that are related to certain ingredients in their food, especially HFCS. The main issue with getting rid of HFCS as an artificial sweetener is, large business owners would throw a fit. HFCS is cheaper than using real sugar to sweeten drinks. …show more content…
Countries who use HFCS have a 20% higher risk of Type-2 diabetes. Insulin resistance(IR) is what happens when you become diabetic. This artificial sweetener is the main factor in our diets that cause this issue. When too much sugar is consumed within your body all the extra then turns into fat eventually leading to obesity and even a bigger issues than diabetes. When I started reading ingredient labels it was astonishing how many foods first or second ingredient was HFCS. This number is just south of 10% of 2195 calories that are consumed on average in the United States, but it is important to realize that this number of calories is coming from fructose alone and not taking the consumption of glucose into consideration.
