Parkland, Florida. Sandy Hook Elementary. Columbine. San Bernardino. All of these events have spilled blood, destroyed the innocence of the young, and crushed the dreams and futures of those affected by these horrible events. All of these have sparked great controversy over one thing-- guns. Guns have been used for more than two hundred fifty years in the United States, but do citizens still need them even after America has achieved independence? Should America ban all guns? The answer is no, because a ban would increase the crime and murder rate, will not stop criminals from using guns, people’s circumstances have a better correlation to violent gun crimes than guns themselves, and crime has been going down. …show more content…
Guns are quick and easy way to kill, without leaving too many fingerprints. For this reason, criminals will use them, or find a way to use them. Anyone can go to Home Depot, spend $20 on parts and materials, and build a working pistol with a silencer. If one spends $60, they can make their own Mac-12 style submachine gun, which shoots around twenty rounds a second (King). Unlike the chemical is needed to make deadly drugs, these parts that are needed to make guns are not tracked. And also, criminals are people who break the law for their own benefit. Why would a drug lord care if there was a gun ban? He has already broken countless laws, so why would it matter if he broke another one? Also, there will always be a black market for guns and other illegal weapons. Criminals do not just walk up to a gun store to purchase a firearm legally. They purchase them from illegal websites, from black market deals, and by smuggling them in. A gun ban only prevents legal transactions, not the illegal ones. The US should rather focus its resources for cracking down on illegal gun trade rather than legal gun trade.
