During the attack, the bull struck Grendel in the knee with one of his horns. After this Grendel says “I understand that the world was nothing: a mechanical chaos of causal, brute enmity on which we stupidly impose our hopes and fears. I understood that, finally and absolutely, I alone exist”(pg 22). Grendel finally sees the world is made of nothing and that also that he is alone in this world and that no one is going to help him. After this situation that he goes through Grendel has a different perspective on the world that he lives in. He sees the world in a negative way which builds the hatred that he has inside of him. Grendel gets a new look on what the humans do. Grendel sees what they do while hiding in the forest one day. While watching them Grendel is disgusted by what they do. On page 36 Grendel says “I was sickened, if only at the waste of it: all they killed-cows, horses, men- they left to rot or burn”. Grendel is disgusted because of the waste of food and killing that they do. He says that he would have taken the dead animals home and store but his mother would be mad at him because of the smell of the dead bodies. After this he was sickened with the humans. Grendel goes back to the town later on and
