Why Golf Is Good

Stand, swing, swear; stand, swing, swear; stand, swing, exclaim! Stand, swing, swear. Anyone who has ever watched professional golf knows it looks easy; anyone who has ever played a round of golf understands just how much time and effort goes into the sport. I’m not a good golfer. I’m not exceptionally awful, but definitely not good. My mother and stepfather got me interested in the sport 3 years ago, and I’m still bad. However, as someone who has never had to work to be good at much in my life, golf is a good lesson. Bringing to the reader’s attention how stubborn and how bad of a shape Tiger’s mental game is. Cochran really brings out Tiger’s stubbornness when he states “When one of the greatest golfers in the world is telling you that too many people are getting involved, you listen.” Cochran, knowing Tiger’s stubbornness even offered the idea of going back to his original swing coach Butch Harmon since he was at his prime with Butch, but then sarcastically states “Oh that’s right, he’s too stubborn to do…

On Veterans Day 2014, I asked my dad if we could play a round of golf. Since I was a baseball fanatic at the timen, my dad was surprised by my question, but nevertheless he set up a round of golf for us. When I hit a ball off the first tee, I knew I had found a new, strong passion. Although my swing was horrible, I was determined to practice golf everyday to become better. I told my mom about my exhilarating experience on the golf course later that night, and I slowly began to realize that I loved golf more than baseball for its independent aspects, unique serenity, exquisite views, and diverse challenges.…

Golf is full of failure. I would get so mad when I couldn’t control the trajectory or end result of my shots. It was not uncommon for me to quit the round. As I matured, I came to realize that the failures gave me a chance to learn. Practicing a shot over and over again, I came to understand why each shot differed from my expectations.…

Outside of my academic activities, I have a strong passion for sports and exercise. As a student-athlete for over 14 years, I have learned the value of hard-work, dedication, and determination. Establishing these invaluable attributes early on made it possible for me to become an NCAA Division III lacrosse athlete. Sports dramatically shaped the person I am today and taught me how to step to work in unison with my teammates to achieve a common goal and simultaneously step up as a leader.…

After participating in multiple high school sports such as football, basketball, and track & field, I developed a passion to work in sports. Throughout that particular meet, I built relationships with star athletes such as C.J. Spiller who currently plays professional football for the New Orleans Saints, and also Jeffery Demps who plays professional football for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.…

This shows that the play in golf isn’t as difficult as real sports like football. This also slows down golf in terms of pace, and gives players more of a break which makes it less of a sport.…

Nine, the age I was when my fascination with golf began. I still do not know why I so desperately wanted to golf, but I do know that I was determined to learn. That summer between fourth and fifth grade, I was registered for a day camp by my mother, who was confused by my new interest, though supportive nonetheless. Every day, for three weeks, I would arrive at the golf course early in the morning, eager to play and equipped with my lustrous deep red set of metallic clubs. We were divided into groups and proceed to different parts of the golf course.…

Imagery plays a crucial role in the ability to picture your proper swing prior to a shot. Ability to visualize the swing, or placement of a shot, before it is taken offers any golfer a clear vision of the task at hand. When visualizing a swing, or shot a golfer should think in pictures not words, physically seeing the shot take place in one’s head. Knowledge of the game is decisive, in having adequate proficiency to play each shot consistently. Club selection, as well as awareness of position on the course are invaluable to well-placed shots.…
