Gay Adoption Persuasive Essay

Is it wrong to deprive or not give a child the opportunity to have parents? There are children all over the world that need a stable home and loving parents. Why not give them that just because the parents have been identified as gay or lesbian? A homosexual couple is capable of caring for a child or children just the same as a heterosexual couple. Across the United States, bans on same-sex marriage and adoption are decreasing as judges from diverse communities strike them down. The state of Florida says that gays can legally adopt children. Four years ago they struck down the law banning adoption by any homosexual as unconstitutional. Governor Charlie Crist and Attorney General Bill McCollum decided not to fight back. After all of this happened family-law attorneys have estimated that 1,000 adoptions have been finalized statewide by gays. They have adopted even though the law prohibiting adoption by homosexuals remains on the books (Ritchie). Since they allow gays to adopt even though there is a law that legally states they are not allowed to makes this all seem like it’s not really a huge deal. It is wrong to not allow someone the legal guardianship of a child just because of their sexual preference. People express over and over to be yourself and not let anyone tell you differently. Not allowing a gay couple the right to have a family instantly puts them on the spot for being different. Everyone who wants a family deserves one under the right circumstances. No one should be told they aren’t allowed the right to have a family because of their sexual preference.
