According to Bible standards, the definition of marriage is to be between one man and woman (Marriage Equality in The New Republic). With same-sex couples or heterosexual couples, everyone shares the same value of love and commitment (Olson), therefore, everyone should be treated equally. The gay marriage issue affects society in several ways. One of those ways is that other people believe that gay couples want to break the marriage rule. Marriage is defined as only one man and woman. However, it is also breaking Biblical standards. For example, “The denial of marriage … is the most profound statement our society can make that homosexual love is simply not as good as heterosexual love” (Baggett 1). Additionally, at its best, marriage is a stable bond between two individuals who work to create a loving household and a social and economic partnership (Samson 2). In this society, people believe it is wrong to take advantage of the word marriage. In the Bible, it is wrong to break the marriage contract. However, same-sex couples share the same values as heterosexual couples. Gays should also be treated with the same equality. Gays and lesbians share the values as opposite-sex couples, the values of love, commitment and happy, strong families. Now, they are taking that advantage and going out to get married while they can. The marriage license is the last defensible distinction between the rights of gay and straight couples (Von Drehle). No one can possibly have a legit reason for same-sex marriage to not be legalized. Same-sex marriage does not affect other people’s lives, so it should not be their concern. If same-sex couples break the marriage rule, let it be them. The rise of same-sex marriage from a joke to commonplace is a story of converging strands of history (Von Drehle). Baker suit, for the first time, linked the idea of same-sex marriage to an emerging line of high-court precedents establishing a right to privacy in matters of sexual intimacy (Von Drehle). Same-sex couples should have access to the same benefits enjoyed by heterosexual married couples (Gay Marriage ProCon.org). Marriage is an internationally recognized human right for all people (Gay Marriage ProCon.org). On the contrary, same-sex “marriage” is intrinsically sterile.
