Introduction Functional Communication Training (FCT) “develops alternative behaviors that are sensitive to the EOs that maintain the problem behavior” (Cooper et al., p.497); EOs are establishing operations and FCT does not seek to change EOs. FCT uses differential reinforcement of alternative behaviors (DRA) because FCT interventions help the participant to create an alternative form of communication as an antecedent to the previous problem behavior. This course is built around the students’ previous knowledge from Biology and allows them to delve deeper into the systems of the human body. Traditionally, students in this course use the information gained to recognize, evaluate and treat common wilderness injuries. The Arrowhead Coffee Shop provides learning opportunity for special education students to gain experience as well as employability and academic skills. Special education teachers who work with students with orthopedic impairments need to be familiar with specialized instructional strategies to help them achieve their academic goals while meeting their needs. Students with OI can often have multiple impairments such as intellectual and learning disabilities. OI students can also experience visual and hearing impairments.
