According to Young Children, Energy Drinks a Dangerous Mix: Typically, a young child finds the drink in the refrigerator and consumes it. They didn’t go into 7-11 and say, ‘I want to buy an energy drink’. Energy drink manufacturers know of this problem and some voluntarily place warning labels on the packaging stating that the drinks are not intended for children. In addition to the labels, leading manufacturers have pledged not to market the drinks to children or sell them in schools. What the energy drinks manufactures do certainly helps the cause, but what is needed is a system much like alcohols where a person must be of age to purchase the product. Children are consuming these drinks because of ease of access and seemingly pleasant effects, but what they don’t know is what the possible negative health problems could occur. Along with an age limit, education is needed on the effects of caffeine and other performance enhancing substances. The lack of education causes children to keep drinking the energy drinks and eventually become chemically addicted to caffeine which can lead to even more sever health
