Inside the house, Lois tells Stewie ‘Why don’t you go play in the other room?’, to which he replies ‘Why don’t you go burn in hell?’. The similar construction of the sentences is part of the humor of the scene. Nevertheless, it was regretfully removed in the adapting process: when Lois says ‘Je préférerais que tu ailles jouer dans ta chambre’, Stewie answers ‘Un jour tu paieras cette cruauté’. The translators could have seriously kept the effect by having Stewie say something along the lines of ‘Je préférerais que tu brûles en enfer’ or even ‘Je préférerais que tu paies ta cruauté’. In the following cutaway, Bill Clinton answers a journalist’s question saying ‘because you’re so fat’, a senseless immature response. The French translation is …show more content…
The scene also reminds us of the river scene in Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring where the Nazgûl show they are afraid of water. The story being well known in French culture, the Family Guy reference can be understood as an allusion to it. When Lois finally learns the truth, she exclaims ‘What the fuck?’ with the ‘fuck’ being covered by the sound of Peter’s boat. Just as Peter’s earlier ‘This is bullshit!’, the French adaptation is a lot less vulgar: Lois utters a simple ‘Comment ça?’. Lois says she is ‘so mad I can’t see straight’, an expression perfectly adapted to French with ‘Je m’en veux d’avoir été aussi aveugle’: the lexical field is respected even though the core meaning remains is slightly altered. Right after, Brian uses another idiom, saying he did not know that welfare fraud was ‘one of her buttons’ e.g. something that would infuriate her. In French, Brian says he did not think ‘qu’escroquer l’aide sociale l’aurait fait monter au créneau’, meaning that it had her step into the …show more content…
This might be ambiguous for the French audience who distinguishes ‘football’ or ‘soccer’ from ‘football américain’ or ‘football’. Nonetheless, informed viewers will recognize the Super Bowl competition as American football and thus understand the difference with soccer. Furthermore, the two anchors are not recognizable by French viewers, as they are not used to watching football games. Peter and Brian arrive in a blimp on which ‘Forgive me Lois’ is written, translated by a voiced-over as ‘Pardonne-moi Lois’. Peter then highlights the greatness of America, except for the South, The joke translates well into French as it is common knowledge that the American South is racist and in favor of the Second Amendment. The FOX guards have a sweatshirt with ‘Just One FOX’ written on them, a reference to the network’s slogan at the time of the episode airing. The joke goes further as, above the gun they retrieve to attack Peter, the phrase ‘Just one gun’ is written. The adaptation does not translate these since they have no equivalent in French and their translation would not be

Based on the what was learned about trust in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, trust is the most basic trait needed in everyday life. Without it, things cannot set into motion. He is trusted by the inhabitants of Narnia to lead them out of the Witch’s evil rule. The fact that C.S. Lewis was expressing his opinions and showing the value of trust in the story through the characters is shown in my interpretation of the several events in the…

Richard Wagner’s The Ride of the Valkyries illustrates an overwhelming military force that triumphantly defeats its opponents in warfare. This image is brought about by the polyphonic texture from the wavering pitch of the string instruments, the booming intensity of brass and percussion instruments, and the stable rhythm of low and high pitches. The opening of the song presents a sense of urgency as a stack of three high pitches of a string instrument. A brass instrument sets the prideful tone of the music as it follows the stack of string instruments in a low pitch.…

The film Hearts and Minds is a documentary made by Peter Davis in 1974 to portray America’s unethical involvement in Vietnam and examine the opinions of many by showing interviews and vivid footages. The film focuses more on those who were against the war than those who supported it. For the U.S. all that mattered was the victory. However, those who were opposed to the war felt that there was no right or reasonable justification for their actions. The real issue illustrated by the film was whether the U.S. wanted to protect the country from communism or to manifest its greatest power in the world by winning another war.…

By using a minimal amount of cuts throughout the film, the pair glorifies the intensity of the film and allows the viewers to connect on a personal basis. The use of Lubezki’s realistic camera style gives Cuaròn the ability to pull…
